I'm getting RAD for PILS. Which PILS looks the nicest, the all stainless or the one that's high polished except for the main part of the handle, which is that brushed matte finished stainless?

If someone has seen both in person, that would be helpful input as well. I'll actually put up three options. I'm not interested in the gold or the hex handle. There are photos at Gentlemens' Best and RazorEmporium.

I'll likely never own one, but the all stainless model is too awesome.

I don't think you could go wrong with the 101NE or the 118NN. They are great shavers. I have used mine nearly every day since I got it and haven't looked at anything else since. I did stray during a weekend where I left it at home for a weeding I went to and had to use a disposable, but anyway. I can't say I have any regrets about getting it. I had sold enough excess shaving products that I gathered to get it.

After Michael sent me some pictures of his PILS...I managed to convince my wife that I really did need another razor for my birthday...hence the arrival of an all stainless a few weeks ago...man this sucker is heavy...yet so darn gentle...I'm still working on getting the hang of it but it's definitely a keeper. I've taken to alternating weekly between DE's and my Str8's...the PILS is definitely getting the most mileage right now...the toggle I have doesn't satisfy like this beauty...if you can get used to the weight of the darn thing...you'll never regret owning one!

+1. That is the main appeal of this razor, imo.

If that were true then a Parker priced at $245 would garner just as much interest.

In any case, I can see why the all-stainless is out of stock...looks like it's the popular choice by a wide margin. For me, I think if the 118NN were all stainless I'd jump on that one. I still might, since only the caps on the handle are heavy nickel polished brass. I quite like the shiny head and the handle contrast.

It's not just the stainless steel...the head geometry is completely different from the gillette heads I've seen/tried...it's flatter and that bar is just...different...in contrast the new feather just looks like a tech...

I have a matte chrome finish Futur:thumbup1: and notice a change in the finish coloration/texture on the top cap and the areas under the safety bar, and have to wonder if the matte finish PILS would show the same variation after use. I went with the polished stainless head on the 101NN model:thumbup: as that could be restored with metal polish/buffing whereas the matte finish would probably need bead blasting to look original.

I had the same problem with my Vision when I had it. I think there are some things you should not use on those with regards to chemicals/cleaners. Same thing for stainless steel. If you look through the thread, it's in there somewhere. From what I remember, bleach was one.

A possibility....along with wear from use as I previously mentioned.

Yes, I have found Sebastian to be great to deal with. He has the PILS and others, including vintage razors. And other gear.
