Which Microscopes?

Guys, what microscopes that won't break the bank can you use to check the edge of your St8 and are there any portable ones and how much power do they need?

If you're in the US, you can find a small handheld microscope at Radio Shack for about $10. Not the best quality or anything like that, but you can often pick it up locally.

There are other similar hand held microscopes you can find on the net, but I've also seen recommendations for about a 30X jewler's loupe.

I have one similar to that, and it works very well. It broke when I dropped it, though...
Lately I've been using the Illuminated 100x from here. They have a 30x, but I haven't used it. I suggest rechargable batteries if you hone a lot.

I find the Radio Shack to be a PITA sometimes because it isn't very stable. It does have a very good light source, though. That is my backup scope.

Agree on the rechargeable batteries or ones that use AA. The one I posted from eBay is about double what some similar ones go for, except those use some weird watch battery whereas mine takes AAs. Figured I would pay a little up front for when the batteries go bad and it is easier to replace.
