Which brand of Florida Water?

Someone recommended some Florida Water to try, but there was none stocked at my local pharmacies and so I did a quick search online but came up with a myriad of brands....so thought Id ask the experts at B&B.

Thanks!

Well, I'm no Florida Water expert, but I was curious about it myself recently. I found a cheap-o bottle of the stuff at my local grocery store and for $2, I picked it up and didn't think twice about it.

The brand I purchased is Laboratorios Del Pueblo LTD. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this brand. The scent is pleasant enough (for $2, at least), however the longevity is essentially non-existant. I would say the scent for that brand sticks around no longer than 2 hours, which isn't very useful as a cologne IMHO. :a12: It has a high alcohol content, which you can smell as well, and almost overpowers the actual floral, citrus and cinnamon notes.

After consulting with a few B&B members on the topic of Florida Water (on the B&B Facebook group), a few guys suggested that "Murry and Lanman" was a better brand that they had success with. The other members noted that they experienced no problems with longevity for that brand, and they enjoyed the scent as well.

I'm planning to keep my bottle of the stuff around for a little longer for some experimentation. Perhaps I'll try to scent a VDH puck with it or something. If I do come across another brand of it, I'll probably try it, if it's just as cheap.

Again, not an expert, just sharing my experiences. Perhaps someone else is more knowledgable?

M&L is real good, very refreshing, has an almost 'bite' in the cooling sensation. Nice scent and here in the UK it aint expensive at all.

I've got the M&L and like it although I think scent on most Florida Waters is not very long lived. A couple hours tops with the M&L. That is the beauty of it. You can enjoy it while getting dressed after the shave and then put your favorite cologne or EdT on with no issues of conflicting scents.

What section of the store do you find Florida water in? What stores carry it?

I went on a search for this a couple of months ago after hearing about it. I went to drug stores and had no luck.

I even asked the lady that worked at Walgreens if they had Florida water. By the look on her face,:001_huh: she thought I was messing with her. Even the lady behind me laughed for a second. She said she had never heard of it and wished me good luck with my search.

If you have a Botanica near you they should have it have it,some Bodega's carry it too. There's 2 versions of M&L Florida Water. The usual one you find here in the US,which has more of a orange blossom scent, and the Peruvian, which is has a bit more of a spicier scent. There's a Asian version as well pretty sure it's not M&L,that I've been looking out for in the Asian community.

You can orderFlorida water online on Walgreens.com and have it sent to your local store for free shipping. Some Walgreens stock it.

Just picked up a bottle of m&l florida water as its forecast to get into th upper 80s this week. Seems to have a pleasant smell. Look forward to trying it tomorrow

Why do people think this is a good warm weather AS? I bought a bottle of M&L Florida water and it has no menthol, is not cooling, and in fact burns almost as much as Pinaud VIBR. I'm confused.

I think the Murray & Lanman is the best. I love that citrusy, clovey scent.

There are a couple of interesting varieties I haven't seen mentioned: the Chinese brands Liu-shen and Butterfly. Butterfly smells a little perfumey (not unpleasantly so, though), and the Liu-shen smells kind of like incense. I found them in an Asian grocery store in Cleveland. I haven't been able to find them online, but if you see them, they're cheap and interesting to try.

Trust me, I get the YMMV thing completely. I'm just trying to figure this one out somewhat scientifically. The ingredients are: SD alcohol, water, fragrances, color (Blue#1, Yellow #5). The fragrance is made up of various FOs including citrus (mostly orange), lavender, clove, and cinnamon. It's no stretch to see that the clove and cinnamon oils would provide a burning feeling, just like they do in Pinaud VIBR. It seems to me that the only possible place a cooling sensation could be coming from is the citrus oils. But I just don't feel it.

I will say this...after I'm outside in the sun for a while, Florida Water feels cool on my skin because of the alcohol evaporating, and the scent is just very refreshing. As an aftershave it burns like eight gallons of Pinaud Bay Rum.

Maybe people associate Florida with warm weather, and since the product is called Florida Water, and is sort of citrusy, they assume it is a warm weather AS, whatever that means. Personally, I use aftershaves year round, and have never assigned seasons to them.

As for the OP, I use Murray & Lanman Florida Water. I have seen Two Girls brand Florida water at an local Asian store, and while it smelled good, I have not purchased any.

If you are so inclined, there are several recipes, on the web, for making your own.

Only had a couple of small dabs until this afternoon when I was packing away AS's as we are moving house soon. Anyway gave the Florida Water a good shake into the hand forgetting the hole is generous  The result was very pleasing and lasted about 3 hours, could be to do with the amount lol.
