As a DE noob, I've been using Derby blades. They got glowing reviews on Amazon, so I, thinking a blade was a blade, bought 200 of 'em, cheap. Now, I'm less than thrilled with them, and I want to try a sample pack. Having learned my lesson, I don't want just any old blades in it. I want some candidates that will suit me.
I shave every 2-3 days, but if the blade won't irritate my skin, I'd like to shave more often. That's still not very often, so I'd like to get a narrow range of blades so I can choose one easily. Cheaply would be nice, too, as I'm a grad student.
I'm caucasian, my skin is quite soft and not too sensitive, and my hair is on the thicker end of average. I've been testing out some Conk's bay rum, some KMF unscented, and will try some Ogallala bay rum, and perhaps some Proraso. I use an EJ89L, a no-name brush, and I mug/bowl lather. I usually make one pass with the grain, then (the horror!) one pass against, followed by buffing/touch-ups. The Derbys leave a lot of hair on my face, and like to nick me in the process. They're also partial to burning me. I've read a lot and seen some of the recommended videos, and I think my technique is decent.
So, if you could recommend a blade sampler, which one would it be?
