What's new

Where to buy?

I have looked through a lot of the B&B certified vendors and tried looking all over this site for links to places, but I can't seem to find a website that sells a wide selection of newer, modern straights. Amazon has a poor selection. Star shaving only sells one brand which I'm a little unsure of... so where do you guys buy a modern, new straight? The only place I have been able to buy anything good was from the BST where I got my first straight. I would like to look at my options on brand new ones so I can do my research and decide on what to get (if even a brand new one at all) for down the road when I become more comfortable with my shaving abilities.

First straight I bought was a Dovo from Jarrod at the Superior Shave. If you want to buy American, Classic Shaving sells the Hart razor line. Many other options that I'm sure others will chime in about.

The Giesens & Forsthoff entry level razors at star shaving are pretty good, and cheap. However, they will not be shave ready, and must be honed by a knowledgeable person before you attempt to shave with one. Jarrod sells some nice Dovos, including the plain vanilla Bismarck shape, and they are shave ready. Google for "Revisor straight razor" and find the Revisor site. Customer service seems to vary from abysmal to pretty darn good, so don't be surprised if that goes either way, but they do have a great selection and the prices are not bad. They are NOT going to be shave ready. A Hart is almost sure to please you. I prefer vintage blades over new, except of course for my Gold Dollar mods, but there are plenty of viable options for a new razor.

The Harts look very nice. Thanks for this info, I know have some stuff to look at so I can plan my next purchase in a few months! NOW I can decide whether I want vintage or new.
