Where to buy MONSAVON BOL A RASER?

I have really been enjoying my other French soaps, and wanted to try MONSAVON BOL A RASER as it seems to get great reviews. However it seems to be very hard to track down in the US. Does anyone know where I could find some? I tried looking at French vendors, but to be honest I cant navigate the pages.

most forumites got theirs from the French forumite Cookie_Junkie

do a search in the forum. He might be able to hook you up.

It was a labor of love, and the price was very reasonable. Don't be mad if it's too much trouble for him.

I got my first bowl on the island of Corsica. Fantastic stuff. I wish I had bought more.

I don't think I saw it in a US vendor... Your best bet would be to either:

-Contact a French member
-post a WTB thread

Monsavon is an average soap. Great for the price. I would consider it "the French Williams". If you're paying over $10 shipped it isnt worth it. I have had great luck posting in the WTB forum. I got two for $10 last time.

I totally disagree.

I guess YMMV.

Monsavon is like the creamiest, most luxurious soap I've encountered. For me, it lathers like Cade soap without all the tricks.

Monsavon and Cade are at the bottom of the heap of french soaps for me. Just fork up the bucks and get yourself a bowl of MdC.

I would rate the french soaps as follows:

MdC >> Institute Karite > Provence Sante > Pre de Provence >>> Cade > Monsavon

MdC and IK are the only 2 I've kept. Cade is beyond finicky for latherability compared to any other product I've ever used. Monsavon lathers fine but I couldn't get past the smell (which is funny because MdC smells similarly, but I absolutely love the smell of it). Only reason for getting rid of PS is that I just have too much soap, but it is a great performer. PdP is a great performer as well, but I didn't like the scent either. YMMV and all that....

I always get a rich and creamy lather from Monsavon, much better than CADE. The scent is not wonderful, but it's not bad either. It's worth every cent.

+1 on posting in the WTB section.... I generally get oodles of rich luxurious lather when I use Monsavon! But like everything YMMV

I always wanted to try that stuff, but I can't justify $12 when I can get a red tub of cella for the same.

At the 1.30 euro you pay for it in the average French hypermarché it most certainly is but for over $10 I don't think so. It is a nice tallow based shave soap but for me it ranks way below the cheap Italians (Cella and P.160) in performance.

I do like the scent though and will pick up a couple of 'Bols' when I am visiting France again!

Never had a problem lathering Cade. Is one of my favourite soaps. Rich and creamy lather every time. And I love that fragrance! :001_tt1:
Institut Karité is another favourite of mine. A very very good soap, very moisturising.
I also have Monsavon, and I like it also. It is worth every penny, specially if you can buy it in France! But I don't think it is so good as IK or Cade.

Today I tried Martin de Candre for the first time. Yowsers!! What a great soap! MdC plays in a league of its own! Perhaps the best soap I've tried! :001_wub:

Jcof3474 thanks for the link. That is just what I was looking for. Even if $12 is more than you would pay in France I still dont think its a bad price to try something new.

Ss for everyone suggesting MdC I'v been toying with that idea for a long long time. $75 is just to much for a soap, no matter how good it is. If anyone wants to start up a group buy I'm game though.

Martin de Candre is an expensive soap, but the shipping costs for MdC are ultrageous. I was able to buy it on a spanish/portuguese group buy. :thumbup1:

No joke. For the shipping cost alone ($29.99US) you can buy most other soaps on the market. Much less the $40 for the soap. Its not like I would not spring for a $40 puck of soap if its THAT GOOD. However when shipping is just as outrageous I cant do it.
