Where is a good place to buy a Vintage Pen?

Hi,

My name is Dave and I have Been using fountain pens for about 20+ years.
Does anyone know of a good place to buy vintage restored pens?
Also, what would you recommend as the best Piston pen(new or vintage)? I tend to like extra fine tip nibs, like the one on my Pilot Vanishing Point.

Thanks,

Dave

Hey Dave, welcome to The Nib. As far as buying vintage pens, it really depends on if you want to put work into them or not. You can find many vintage pens on auction sites, but many times they need to be restored. If you have no interest in restoring pens, I know Richard Binder puts a tray of restored vintage pens out on the first of the month, you have to be quick as they sell out almost immediately. John Mottishaw at nibs.com also sells restored vintage pens. I know there are many other places as well like antique stores or estate sales.
As far as piston fillers, I would say that Pelikan is one of the best out there and they are piston fillers. You can find new or vintage.

I also vote Pelikan. Nice writers, good capacity.

Highly recommend Pen Haven in Kensington, MD. Might not be a bad drive for you. He's got an insane number of pens, good deals, and he won't let you leave until you love the way it writes. Bring the pens you have now, and he'll tune up the nibs for free.

Only open on weekends though. Old guy has some health issues.

Visit if you can. It's old school service. I always have a great experience, even when i don't spend money.
