What's new

When do you plan your next shave?

Many (if not most) of us have many creams/soaps and perhaps many razors/brushes from which to choose.

What I'm wondering is when you plan your shave? If you're a morning shaver, do you pick out your stuff the night before? Do you plan more than one day in advance? Or do you get up and after the shower just grab whatever strikes your fancy at that exact moment?

Enquiring minds want to know......

I lay out my next evening's set-up immediately after the shave I just completed, but that changes sometimes when I have a tough day and start thinking about shaving in the middle of the afternoon and end up ditching the plan and going with a tried and trusted "relaxing" set-up. In that case Trumper's Coconut is usually involved.

Night before for me. Plan it out, set it up, take a couple of shots for the SOTD thread, upload pic, go to bed and look forward to the next morning!

I decide as I am getting out of hte shower. how do I feel, what am I doing today, what is the weather, how does my face feel, what scent am I going to wear....

I could never commit the night before, too many variables!

I try to stick with the same stuff for a week at a time.

Sometimes I'll make subtle changes. For example:

this week my theme is "Cold Shaves" and I have been using QED Peppermint. However last night I audibled to Salter's Mint.

I normally decides after a shave what I will use for the next shave. But half of the time I change my mind right before the shave.

This +1. Also by the time I'm done I wonder what else I haven't bought yet so I can try something new next time :w00t:.

Depends. Usually the night before. I'll think about it as I go to bed. Sometimes however, if I sleep in or have a crappy night's sleep, it will change when I wake up.

A complex shave requiring more gear, thought and prep will quickly de-evolve into a quick cream, trusty AS and razor.

I stick with one soap or cream for a month, and the same set of brushes in a mini-rotation for that month. I keep the brushes in order, so it's always a-b-c-d-a-b-c-d rather than random. Aftershave can be a bit more random, depending what from my stash I have on the counter that week or month.

Never a plan. I just step up and start grabbing stuff.

I trust you make sure you grab the right end of the razor.

I use whatever stikes my fancy when I step out of the shower, with one exception, new blade day I use proraso.

I usually set up the razor, blade and brush the night before, normally with a pretty good some idea as to what SS/SC I intend to use. There is always the possibility of a last minute change of SS/SC and, except in cases where the AS/EdT are dictated by the SS (e.g., I almost invariably do Tabac or Arlington as a set), AS/EdT is improvised on the spot.

I choose and lay out my shave the night before if I am shaving in the morning. 5am is too early to have to think about such things. If I'm working nights or on days off, I will often have an idea the day before, but make my final decision and lay out the shave when I am ready to shave. My shave den space is really small, so I only keep a couple of A/S and my current shave in there, along with a 'go to' soap for when I'm in hurry.
