When did the AD Strike For You?

When did you guys Get the AD bug, and how long it took to act on it.
I Got It When I Started To read this forum, And I began to learn about all the different razors/soaps/creams That Are out there.

I got it after trying one of the Walmart Wilkies and comparing it to my Astras. And then it was wanting to try other soaps/creams locally after I found VDH worked alright for me. And trying other razors has been easy since I have lots of flea markets and antique malls to go to. Seeing what I like and dont like in razors. Brushes is a simpler mission of which one will work well for either soap or cream. But really all my AD is in the search of that "One" shave to end the hunt. and that is my fun atm. Just trying stuff until that day.

When i applied the lather to my face and took the first down-stroke WTG with the EJ89! From there on, i was hooked!

Since the beginning ive suffered from SCAD. I guess it started because I wanted to have a product with the perfect scent for whatever mood I might be in or the weather or any number of situations. So I picked up a tub of TOBS eton for the winter months, then a tube of co bigelow for the summer, then I wanted to have a nice lavender so I got some TOBS lav and some mama bears lavender.

Then I noticed that my den was lacking in citrus, so back I went to the mama bear and hooked myself up with some bergamot. Then I discovered Cade. And then some cella from the brick popped up on BST for $8 shipped.

So that's my story and it continues to this day. Looking forward to the winter to order some T&H creams that I've been wanting. It's never done, the den is never complete.

I bought the lavender "Art of Shaving" kit about a year ago, and have been using it with my cartridge. I've been trying out a few different soaps (C&E, and have a couple of Mama Bear's on the way). Just placed an order with "The Italian Barber" for a bunch of their stuff. I haven't tried the DE yet, but I can see that's going to happen soon, too.

When decided to stop sporting the beard I bought a 34c. After shaving with it I reminisced teaching myself to shave with my Dad's old razors and well thirty DE's later the rest is history.

Yep. Same here.

Since I got a kamisori, the ADs have subsided. They've been rearing their expensive heads, lately, though.

I'm not sure really. I remember buying a razor and using it for a long time, then buying another and using it for a long time.
Then all of a sudden....I had more razors than I knew what to do with.

I got it immediately after registering here. The hardest hit for me was SS/SCAD. It tames itself after a while. I used Barbersol almost exclusively for 18 years. Which I equate to eating the same food everyday for 18 years. Once I was popped out of the P&G matrix and realized I had choices, well the ADs begin. When you find yourself sniping on ebay at 3 am and get the shakes waiting for UPS, you'll know you've hit rock bottom. Then you start a thread titled "I thought this was gonna save money" & we console/enable your next round of purchases. A truly viscous cycle.

I did fine for about 50 years. I had only a handful of razors that I had been using since I started shaving and only three brushes. I used two or three creams and only two or three soaps. And then I discovered B&B. First, I ordered a Progress razor and had it converted into a Mergress. Then I ordered another one and did the same thing. My DE razors multiplied to include an assortment of vintage and new DEs. My creams seemed to multiply as did the soaps. I ordered a Simpson Duke 3, a couple of B&B brushes, branched out to SE shaving, too. And that doesn't include all of the blades I managed to acquire. The end result is that I now have a drawer filled with goodies.

Day 1.

I decided to take up wet shaving after shaving my head, and stumbling across this forum. I needed all the gear, so I got a starter kit from Superior. But I wasn't sure I had everything I needed, so I got more stuff from WCS. But then I read how good certain soaps were, and needed to try them, and then some other stuff might be discontinued, so I needed that as well. Then I got my starter set from Whipped Dog. I've calmed down quite a bit these days, and want to actually use up some of what I have. I don't want to 'collect' stuff, but rather have plenty to use. But I did just order 3 tubs of the original Proraso formula.

And the stuff I got in my original starter set, is still amongst my favorite supplies.

Day 1.5

Soon after my first DE shave, as I realized how smooth the shave was, I began the never-ending search for the ultimate BBS, initiating what I didn't fully understand at the time - RAD and associated AD in all forms.

I think I actually lasted almost a week as a DE newbie before I began to fall prey to AD in all its forms.

Now I'm making little deals with myself on a regular basis: do I want to go out for dinner tonight, or do I really want to try another cream or aftershave.

Had to go to the glossary on this one.... AD... Hadn't seen it before, however, I'm a bass player and frequent the Talkbass forum, and over there we refer to it as GAS... or Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Perusing the boards, both bass, and shaving, I can see I'm a gonna have to really focus on trying to find some of that self control people talk about... :)
