What's new

What's the smoothest shaving non-adjustable safety-bar (non-OC) razor you've used?

Just tossing out the question.....

I've used red tip, blue tip, flare tip, black tip, and black-handled Superspeeds, triangular- and rectangular-hole fat-handle and ball-end Techs, DE89, Muhle R89, Krona, Feather Portable, and Stahly live blade razors.

Of that bunch, the smoothest for me was the Stahly. I don't know what it is about the head design that makes it such a great shaver. It has become my favorite non-OC, non-adjustable razor.

What have you tried, and which is the smoothest for you?

Interesting question. There are so many.
I have a razor called the "Nicplata" which was awesome, and I have an Apollo 3-piece that's just grand, too.
They're both so effortless to use.
After that, I'd have to say the slant.

I have about 12 new and old cheap and expensive. The easiest for me would be the Krona.

Interesting, but I'm not asking about which is the easiest to use. I'm asking which one seems to mow down the stubble most smoothly, with the least amount of resistance, and very efficiently.

I have used the Krona, too (forgot to put it into my OP), and I agree that it's easy to use. Unfortunately, for me it required more passes because of its inefficiency.

+1 for the Merkur Slant. I like my non-adjustables: SS Blue Tip, Tech, EJ DE89, Merkur 180, Weishi cheapo, 1930 New Open Comb, Blue Starburst but, I have to say the smoothest, most efficient shave is with my 39C Slant. Haven't tried a Stahley, Krona, Muhle or Feather yet.

Here is one of the smoothest-shaving razors that I know, and it has no name:

I'm about 75% sure that its a Hoffritz, but there is no mark on the razor or the case. Silver-plated handle, heavy-duty construction, and the shave is as smooth as silk.

There sure are a lot of fine razors out there!

OK well in that case in my line up that would be the anemic 1906 by Merkur. My heavy hitter is an adjustable which does not qualify.

With all classic / traditional razors in the mix, my vote goes to a Schick Injector for giving a no-hassle shave with little effort, getting maximum results in minimum strokes. My favorite Injector is the Hydromagic I2 model, and over the last two weeks, out of ten shaves or so, I used it the most, six times, not exactly all in a row. There was a shower shave sandwiched between two sets of three Injector shaves (using a Sensor razor).

My faves so far in this category are my Weber DLC/Classic and my Stahly/OSS handle combination (still experimenting with different handles with the Stahly) - both provide very nice shaves.

I think the DE89 is smoothest. My second smoothest is the 39C with a Lab Blue. This was an amazing discovery, because the 39C was mean to me the first time I owned one. I decided to try it again after I discovered how much I loved the Lab Blue blade and it is an amazing shave.

I think the blade is more important than the razor. I encourage anyone that isn't getting absolutely great, smooth shaves to keep experimenting with blades. There is one for you that will change your shaving life.
