What's the deal with confirmed addresses in PayPal?

When I log into Paypal, my address says "Home Confirmed". However, I just got a "Your package is on it's way!" e-mail from Paypal, and it show my mailing address as "Unconfirmed". I tried contacting Paypal, and they said to add a credit card to confirm my address. I already have two credit cards, and both say "confirmed" next to the billing address (which is the same as my shipping address).

Does anyone understand how this works?

You have to add a bank account to "confirm" your address from my understanding.

It was a bug with Paypal. I've been going back and forth with them and, somehow, my address was "on my account" multiple times (yet only showed up once in my profile). They removed the duplicates and it works now. I thought I should post an update in case it could help someone else.

It was a problem for me, because some people don't ship to unconfirmed addresses.

Or

I'll ship to the confirmed address only to e told later by the buyer that's an old address....This is why BEFORE I send anything I follow up with a question on where to send it too. Paypal address or as MANY of you B&B members do a work address. Gee, I don't know WHY it would go to a work address.:biggrin1:

Mine fluctuates between unconfirmed and confirmed. I just gave up.

Heh, I didn't have a credit card, so used my bank account and my mastercard debit that is really just the same bank account. Worked like a charm.

Just as a small FYI, if you ship to any address other than the one PayPal gives you, the buyer could claim he/she never received the package, and you would be fully liable even if you provide tracking information.

hmm, thanks. I didn't think about this. In the future I'll require a signed return reciept if it's going to adifferent address. Fortunately everyone here has been on the up&up.

This still won't help you with Paypal. It might help if you went to court, but unless you are shipping gold bricks, courts are probably not a cost-effective way of recovering money from scammers.

I think the only thing you can do is have them change their address in Paypal or send you the money as a gift.

Obviously, if it's someone on a forum like this, and they've been around for a while and have a lot of posts, I'd probably just ship it where they wanted since the odds of getting scammed are low.
