What's new

What was your first razor, last razor and everything in between

What are all the different razors you have used in their order including cartridges and electric and what were the different results?

First was a Trac II and used that for almost 20 years. Had a few electrics in that time and never liked them at all. When the 3 blade carts started showing up I tried most of them and didn't like them either. The Trac II started getting harder and harder to find so I went on the look for something else. Found a DE folowwing on the net and gave it a try and haven't looked back once. Since 07 Ive tried a few DE old and new; Slim, Fatboy, Tech, Rotbart, GEM, Merkur Progress, and 37 slant. The slant was my last and that and the Progress are the two I use now. For travel I'd use the Bic Metels if I could find them loacaly.

Sensor was first, then mach 3, but moved to Braun 8xxx series. Results were satisfactory for all I knew, with consistent irritation on my neck.

I've mainly used disposables of various types throughout my shaving career, mostly the simple 1 blade bic. Did the job, but nothing special.

I was bought a Mack3 once, used all the free blades that came with it then ditched it. Decent shave but expensive refills.

I've had two cheap electric razors, one Braun one Remington, also bought as presents. Didn't like them at all.

In January I made the move over to de shaving. Bought myself a Wilkinson Sword Classic and I love it. The chore of dragging a disposable across my face every other day has been replaced with a new found enjoyment and hobby.
My skills and techniques have improved over the weeks, as well as my arsenal of various oils, soaps, colognes and moisturiser.
I like this new hobby of mine so much I've invested in a brand new Merkur Futur, which came on Wednesday but I've been waiting until today to test it :)
I'm going for it in the next hour. Setting one for starters, Wilkinson blade, king of shaves oil underneath the original proraso soap. Followed by Brut cologne and E45 moisturiser.
It's a bit sad, but I'm actually excited about it...

Wish me luck......

My father gave me my first razor when I was 14. I believe it was a flare tip. I didn't use it much and got into a fair amount of trouble for facial hair in high school (was verboten back in the years I was in school).

When I went off to college I forgot to take my razor so went out and bought a Gillette super adjustable. I have and still use that razor today

The last razor I bought is still on its way to me and hopefully it will be here early next week. Gillette D1 toggle.

As far as the ones in between. holey moley. Several hundred easily. It might be easier to list the razors I do NOT have

My very first DE razor purchase was a 38C. The last one that I purchased (just BEFORE the sabbatical) was a cased Jr. Aristocrat.

My mom bought me a wilkinson sword 2 blade cart when i was 13, i used edge shave gel.

Don't know what happened to it (wish i still had it though), but after that one i remember using only gillettes: sensor, mach' 3's, turbos, fusions (i pretty much bought the newest Gillettes as they came out).

results wise: i never had a problem with the two blade carts. but as i got older and grew a stronger/heavier beard, the multi cart razors (3 and up) seemed to irritate my skin more and have given a few ingrown hairs now and then. For a while i just let my beard grow and just trimmed it with a hair clipper (wahl).

i don't like electric razors at all.

Until last year in july i made the switch to a DE. My first DE was the Merkur 34c

Since then i have acquired a few vintage Gillettes.

My shaves with a DE have been way closer, more comfortable and great. I've said it before, that i wish i had discovered this when i was 20. i would have saved so much money (well, at least until RAD kicked in)

I'm extremely happy with the results, and i would also like to thank all of you guys for all of the advice and guidance since i started this new lifestyle.
