What's new

What was your 2012 Christmas Meal?

We started today's food festivities by having a mid day luncheon of smoked Michigan white fish, Michigan Saga brie-blue cheese, English Stilton, French Brie, all with crackers, and a very nice bottle of 2010 vintage Napa Valley Chardonnay.

Not exactly sure what our evening meal will be as the Chardonnay has got me not thinking about that now. Glad I shaved before we had our midday meal otherwise I might be scruffy at dinner tonight :001_smile

Had yesterday's Kung Pao Beef while looking after my son who came down with a fever yesterday.
Rest of family getting stressed out at MIL's house while we watch Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.

Turkey Galantine Ballontine just popped out of the oven. Will hopefully have our guests over within the next hour to enjoy it along with smashed potatoes, green beans, white rice, fresh beets, Trini stewed chicken, veggie lasagna and leftover ham and bread from last night.

Just finished dinner and I did take some pics of it in progress. I enjoy one pan meals :001_smile

First pic was taken as it was started, second one just before being served

Very basic chicken breast, nuts, fruit, veggies, and rice.

2 meals for me today at home and at my brothers. turkey, taters, corn, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce, apple pie, pistacho pudding thingy, lots of other fixins and what nots.

even my brothers dog got a christmas meal! i see him making up another plate and am thinking "man he must be hungry" piling on the turkey, corn, carrots, stuffing, mashed taters, then he sits it in the floor and the dog devours it. cracked me up.

We had a great meal tonight, consisting of ham, rolls, broccoli casserole, peas and corn, green beans, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. It was amazing!

We do it big on Christmas Eve.

Today was canadian bacon and homemade waffles at the in-laws for breakfast. Leftovers from last night for lunch. Spiral sliced ham, beer bread, steamed veggies, and scalloped potatoes for dinner.

This is the first year I hardly had any cookies. My sweet tooth is less and less voracious every year.

One interesting thing I had yesterday was a rheuben roll. Think pepperoni roll only instead of pepperoni and sauce it was corned beef and sauerkraut. I snagged a piece of that with other bits and pieces for my take home plate.

We celebrated Christmas about four times so far with two more to go. My best meal so far was my uncle's home made kielbasa from his smoke house and my wife's haluski. That and some cwikla make for a dreamy comfort food meal. My Aunt makes some insanely delicious kolachi too. Nut, poppy, cheese, etc...

Right now is a nice cool glass of bourbon and cola on the rocks and some relaxing. Back to the office tomorrow!

I miss having the seafood feast on Christmas Eve. When I was a kid we would go to my Italian grandmother's house and have smelts and crab legs and shrimp and anything and everything from the sea. My father-in-law is Italian, yet this seems to not have been a tradition their family carried on.

My father's side of the family is "Hunky", or eastern European. So there is always some great food to be had when visiting his brother. I'm not sure if it is Croation or Slovak or Yugoslavian to be honest. I just know to politely turn down the Slivovitz and blood sausage. My stomach can only take so much..

Chinese food from a neighborhood joint. Same as pretty much every Christmas. As a Jewish guy born in New York City, that's programmed into my DNA.

Christmas eve:
Prosecco and antipasti: pastry dough encased baked brie, 3 varieties of olives, salami, mortadella, coppa, curry chicken skewers, gorgonzola, smoked trout, table water crackers, caramelized onion puff pastries, my mother's Italian Christmas cookies, espresso and Moscato for dessert

Christmas day:
Prosecco & Sparkling Pinot Grigio
antipasto: port wine cheese, fresh gorgonzola, coppa, mortadella, salami
hand made ravioli in meat sauce
tossed salad
Italian hard rolls
mashed sweet potatoes with a brown sugar & pecan topping
hand made cannoli
my Mother's Christmas cookies
espresso

After whittling down a Greenburg Smoked Turkey that arrived in the mail last week from a good friend the last thing I wanted to see today was a turkey so I had some sauteed mussels and Linguine with a white Clam Sauce.

Cheese ball consisting of cream cheese, spices, nuts, and chipped beef.
Assorted appetizers, cut assiago and champagne cheddar cheese, carrots, celery and cocktails.

The meal consisted of Prime Ribs of Beef, baked potato, cranberry salad, mixed vegetables, with Ledson's Sonoma Valley Merlot.

Dessert - which nobody had - was cheese cake.

I think I put on 5 pounds today!

Standing rib with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans with bacon and tomatoes, olives, pickles, rolls and all washed down with Manny's pale ale.

We had Fajitas with chicken and steak. My family tends to do a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner and then we try to mix it up a bit for Christmas.

Breakfast - Some raspberry laced buns bought somewhere.
Lunch - Ham and cheese sandwiches
Dinner - pepperoni pizza

Nothing exciting this year.
