What to use and what to avoid?

Try 'em all, set aside the ones that don't suit you, then come back to them in a few months-- you might find the ones you absolutely hated initially are actually very good blades. Enjoy your shaves!

There's the perfect answer, we can close this thread now!:biggrin1:

I agree in sampling them all and trying each blade at least twice. I also highly recommend keeping your variables consistent (razor, brush, soap/cream) to ensure no "blade bias."

At the end of the day, if I was a gambling man, I believe you will like the Astra SP, Super Iridium, Shark, and Gillette Silver Blue in no particular order.

I've used all in your pic except the tiger blades. They are all good blades and I would imagine the tiger ones are good also.

Open one pack and use all of the blades in that pack before you go to another brand. Don't blade jump.

All perfect answers. I tried many blades and don't always like the ones everyone else likes. Plus I now like Feathers but 2 years ago I thought they were only made to shave the skin off your face.

Like turtle said above

This will rule out you trying one bad blade and thinking they are all like that one bad blade. From your picture I had used the Gillette Blue and Derby when I started and managed great shaves without tearing up my face.

Ok ill take my time and make some honest assesments , however i found that from both the Lord and tiger blades whilst not cutting myself i did however get a few open pore bleeds , more so with the tiger than Lord .

In theory it's best to use a full pack. On the other hand, when I started I picked up packs of 40 to 50 different varieties. There's no way to use a pack of each unless I wanted to be at it for years. My advice, different from others, would be to try a lot of blades. Use just one or two and go on to another. When you find a few you like then go back and try them some more and pick out your favorites. Don't throw away the ones you think you don't like. As your experience develops and you have firmer ideas of what you like then go back and try them again.

While this is probably the best advice, it is one of the few suggestions turtle has given me that I have not followed. Not because I thought it was wrong or bad advice--I'm just far too impatient to wait that long to try something new. So far I haven't had any real issues with any blade and my shaves have been good and continue to improve. But I'm not suggesting others ignore the great advice and use my behavior as an example. I rarely advise other to follow my behavior.

But I will say this: If I was encountering issues of any sort, I would minimize the changes, pick what has worked well in the past, and concentrate on technique for a while.
