What soap should I buy next?....

Hey Gang,

Ok....first the background...

I shave solely with a straight razor. Usually either my Dovo 6/8 "Best Quality" or with my Dovo 5/8 Micarta. Typically I face lather. My go to soap is Tabac. I use it almost exclusively. I have tried and use occaisionally the following:

VDH Deluxe
Williams
Col. Conk Almond
Hugo Naturals Spearmint

Like I said....Tabac is my go to. I love the lather and the slickness (a must for straight razors), the scent is ok....but I usually splash with a good Aftershave so the scent doesn't really matter that much to me.

So...the questions is....what should my next soap be??

I've thought about the MWF thing, but I'm not sure if something else might be better. So....I'm open to suggestions. Money, btw, is not really a big deal, but I'd prefer to keep it under $40...yes I know most of the stuff I've tried is cheap...but I don't mind spending a few $$ on something I know is good and will last me a long time (think triple milled), but then again...Tabac is cheap and it's AWESOME.

I should also not that I DO prefer tallow over glyceryn.

Thanks for your suggestions ahead of time.

Arko or Speick for current line stuff. Vintage Yardley and Old Spice. MWF is a definite also, I just haven't tried it yet.

If you like Tabac you should definately try Prairie Creations. In my opinion its even better than Tabac. I also face lather. I get a rich creamy lather lots of slide and good cushion and tthe lather lasts.

Cella, Mama Bear's Aged Spice, or maybe the Bay Rum from Krissy?

I suspect as a straight user you'll like what Cella has to offer.

Wow guys....thanks for all the info. I do have a question about the MWF though.....is Kent really the same stuff at a much lower price?

I'm leaning toward the MWF, but some of the other suggestions seem really good too. AoS has an awesome shave cream (tried a sampler), but some of the others I've never heard of (Cella?).

Anyhow...thanks for the suggestions, and keep them coming if you have some more.

Warmest regards,

--Matt

Forget MWF. In my opinion, it is inferior to many other soaps out there.

If you want the top of the line, it begins and ends with Art of Shaving hard soaps in my opinion. If you want a stick, check out valobra or DR Harris.

After Art of Shaving, I find DR Harris, Trumpers and Truefitt & Hill Luxury to be the next step down but still great.

I didn't like the scent of tobac but it is a good soap.
MWF is hard work. Great lather when you get there but so much effort.

Try
AOS Sandalwood
Trumpers Lime
Trumpers Rose... not quite as rich a lather as the lime
Floris JF

All rich protecting top quality shaving soap. All last months and so are really quite inexpensive.
