What's new

What should my next cream be?

Since taking up wet shaving a couple of months back, I've been using the Art of Shaving's Sandlewood shaving cream, and I've found it quite pleasurable and serviceable. That said, it's starting to run low, and it's time to purchase more cream (or soap?).

I love the AoS's sandalwood scent, which I find subtle, not too overpowering, and fresh. That said, I recently bought a Gillette aftershave gel (with no other name) that has a much stronger aroma which I also like. The container is a teal blue color, and it's supposedly for "sensitive skin," although I did not realize that until I looked at the label just now. I know I'm comparing apples (cream) and oranges (aftershave) but I just thought I'd put that out there.

Anyway...

Looking for suggestions for my next bottle of cream (or soap?) from you folks. I'm so new I don't know nuthin' 'bout no shaving creams. What would you recommend? I'd like to branch out a little and try something new (to me). Thanks!

Stick your zip code into the Kiss My Face store locator to find a retailer near you and grab a tube ($5) or pump bottle ($8) of any scent.

These are amazing creams and one of the easiest to lather. They are sold as "brushless" but stick a brush to it and you will have a lava flow of slick, luxurious, lather to use.

That looks like a great tip. There are KMF retailers all over my neck of the woods! Thanks.

I would go for TOBS. Underrated performance reasonable priced. Mr Taylor, Rose or Avocado and you cannot go wrong.

What about an AoS shave soap? These are made in Italy and are of very high quality. :thumbup1:

AOS Ocean Kelp. Awesome fresh scent that I find very similar to DRH Arlington. And you already know about AOS performance.

+1 on the TOBS. I got a tub of their Lemon and Lime and Eton College Cream. I used the Lemon and Lime last night and it lathers so easily and makes such a huge volume of lather that it almost feels like cheating.

I'm overwhelmed with all the responses. I tried the first suggestion, and my local Kiss My Face retailer, Sprouts (a grocery store) had nothing shaving-related. I guess I'll work my way down the list. :)

There are four cream lines that I have selected as being the best performers. These creams, in conjunction with great hardwear (Black Beauty, R89, Feathers or equivalent), in conjuction with 40 years behind the blade, allow me to achieve one pass perfect BBS if I try. Otherwise, three pass perfect BBS every time.

My suggestion is go to one of these top performing creams to start, you can cream experiment after you get more time behind the blade.

The creams are as follows: Penhaligon, Floris, the T&H line, Trumpers Violet. I have also used AK 1869 in the past.

If you want to make it easy, get Trumpers Violet (or any Trumpers)....less expensive and easy to get. T&H creams are easily obtainable, Pens and Floris less so.

The only cheap cream that ever performed acceptably for me was Speick.
