As we are all well aware the vintage methods and products for shaving far outperform the modern day equivalents. I'm wondering have any other grooming products gotten worse as they try to improove them.

What other vintage/classic grooming products are out there that work better than their modern day equivalents?

Acne: Tea tree oil versus benzoyl peroxide. Tea tree oil produces less irritation, less drying, and a fewer allergic reactions; it's also much more toxic, and so doesn't exert selection pressure (it kills 100% of anything it contacts at over 0.5% concentration). It's toxic in humans if ingested; it's safe at 4% topical concentration, and occasionally (6%) causes reactions at 100% concentration. It has beneficial effects on the skin.
