What is your Leaf (3 Blade) Experience?

Hi all,

I'm working to convince my GF to drop the cartridge lifestyle and try out the Leaf 3 Blade.
I'd like to know the experiences you've had with this razor.

It's one thing to shave just your face or head, but as a Chewbacca man, I can't imagine shaving my legs.

Thanks for your input!

I haven't seen any recent chatter about the Leaf here, but I'm sure it has some fans. I haven't tried it.

Leaf also makes the Twig and Thorn. I haven't tried these either but there seems to be a number of fans of these.

My wife has the Leaf and loves it. She has a brush and some Stirling soap, but she more often just uses what is in the shower. The only thing she doesn’t like is changing the blades, so I do it for her. She has a Twig as well, but it never gets used. She has used my Henson + while traveling, and has liked that, but not as much as the Leaf.

I use the Leaf three blade razor for headshaving. Does quite well on a day or less head whisker growth. Any more than that and it’s a clog monster. For daily head shaving it’s a Mach3 killer. I usually load it with the Lord half blades from Egypt. Shaves like a dream.
I know that people will often snap the DE blades in half to use for a SE or this razor. Is there any downside to that? Is it better to buy pre cut blades?

I got 100 of the Leaf branded half DEs, and they seem to be ok. I have snapped Astra greens and Personnas, but she doesn’t notice a difference, so I keep loading it with the Leaf blades. When they are gone, I will likely have enough blades for the both of us. Snapping blades is easy, but does create a pair of new sharp edges that may or may not be an issue. Tabs down is how I usually do it.

I thought the leaf blades were pretty bad. No big deal snapping with the wrapper on. Pro tip is cut them with some scissors.

I can't speak on the 3 blade but my wife is happy with her twig. It is to mild for my face, but the Thorn is a good travel razor.

I’ve not tried the blades myself, but I have learned that if it ain’t broke, etc. I may revisit the Twig at some point for giggles, and use the included blades, but I am sure I would prefer the snapped blades. It’s an ongoing game of what works for someone else may not work for me.
<edit>
My wife loves the razor with all 3 blades. I’ve tried other combos and she didn’t like anything but all three blades. She does not share my obsession with shaving related things. If it gets rid of hair, it is working. She does like the Stirling black cherry.

I bought the Lord 1/2 blades because it was such a good deal for a thousand pack. One upside for the pre-snapped blades is you don't have that extra 1/2 blade hanging around after snapping two DE blades and loading the Leaf.

i just recently got the Leaf. I was previously using disposable 3-blade razors. I have used the Leaf only three times so I can't provide much of a review except to say each shave was smooth and with no weepers/cuts and with less irritation. I got what I consider a very close 2 pass shave. I will stick with it as it appears to be a better fit for me than DE. As for ladies, I obviously cannot provide any guidance other than I have seen several YouTube videos where ladies have reviewed the Leaf.

I use mine for head shaves and it behaves very much like a cart razor with a pivoting head. I get shaves as good as carts, shaving every four days.

Consider leaving the center blade slot empty for longer growth. I've never done it, but the Leaf can be used with one, two, or all three blades loaded.

I've used mainly Shark Saloon half-blades. Either will work.

Agreed. I can shave with just about any DE blade, but I didn't care for the Leaf branded blade. I use Shark half-blades which cost less. I think I paid 6-7 bucks per hundred.

I just moved from a plastic thingy to the 3-blade Leaf. The first shaves with the Leaf blades were good, but there was a lot of tugging. Today I finally received my shipment of other DE blades, and shaved using the Astra Platinum, and wow did that make a tremendous difference.

With the Astras, you need to be a bit more careful, but unlike the Leaf blades, there was zero tugging, maybe the most comfortable shave I have ever had, ATG was amazing.

I have not tried it for underarm shaving yet, but it looks ideal for that use case - very easy and forgiving, similar to a plastic multiblade.

I got my girlfriend a Leaf a few years ago, and she loves it for leg shaving.

She did not love it at first. I tried it to see what the deal was. The included Leaf blades were awful! Such a rough shave!

I replaced them with snapped Rapiras or something, and it worked great.

It's too bulky to shave well around my mustache, but luckily, her legs don't have a nose in the way.

Update: did my first underarm shave with the Leaf and the Astra Platinum blades, and that was the first easy, nearly effortless and fastest underarm shave in my life. I always used to use a Gillette Fusion, which would take forever and was never thorough.

The only thing I need is a single edge razor to replace the single blade Bics I use to trim sideburns and the area underneath my nose, for which a razor like the leaf is not adequate. (maybe an excuse to buy another cool razor)
