What's new

What is your favorite "hidden gem"?

What are you all's favorite soaps that are either an uncommon scent (try to describe) or from a brand that no one but you may have ever heard of?

I do not have any to contribute as I've only been on this journey for a short while, but I am very interested in hearing everyone elses!

I think eShave soaps should get more attention on B&B. I have their mandarin fragrance soap, and it's one of my favorites.

I'm not sure if this one fits, but Provence Sante. It has a scent like a clean linen candle and works excellent for me, better than Tabac even!

Tabac. Far from hidden, but a serious gem.

I used to have great luck with van der Hagen Glycerin. It is ok now, definitely not Tabac.

I think Haslinger should get more attention, great soaps (performance/smell) and at about €5 for 60g a steal IMO.

I'm with Andy on this one. The eShave Mandarin (which Iused for the first time this morning) is to be taken seriously. I need to use it a few more times to get a real good feel for it and maybe write a review, but so far I abolutely love it, both for its natural orange scent, and for its luxuriant lather. A real winner!

I absolutely love my eshave mandarin, it lathers like crazy, and the lather sticks around for a LONG long time.

Lately I have been enjoying SCS orange sorbet, man it smells good!

Monsavon is a soap one can find in any French supermarket. It is a soft tallow based soap with a nice smell, and I think it definitely qualifies as a hidden gem.

Aramis. Great lather, fantastic scent (if you like Aramis). Unfortunately, it's discontinued and nearly impossible to find.

Its for sale in a dept. store near me...(John Lewis), but can sometiems be found cheaper on the bay.

Palmolive stick. Unbelievably good for the price.
Yup, no arguing about that. You wouldn't expect it given that it costs less than €2 per 100 g, but once you get it going, it gives the full-priced soaps a very good run for its money. Yes, those are usually more luxurious and have better fragrances, but for me, this soap clicks in a very good way.

And I also agree with the Provence Santé-fans. I just wish the fragrance would have been a little less flowery. I'm hoping that Pré de Provence (which is also shea-based) smells better. Disadvantage is that it is murder to obtain it here in Europe, even though the )(&)(#&*%)(#Q%#Q% pucks are made in France. Go figure.

The Speick shave stick doesn't get anywhere near the attention it truly deserves. It's an underrated classic.
