What is your Blade Bank ?

A lot of people use broth cans. You just cut a blade sized hole in the top, drain the broth, and then rinse it out. You can then paint it however you like, if you feel moved to do so. It'll hold a ton of blades and is recyclable when it's full.

Im new to wet shaving and given all the new fun stuff i had been buying i was reluctant to buy something and take the gentle (but firm) ribbing id get from my wife. So i took an empty peanut butter jar, smacked the lid with the back of a hammer, and voila i had a blade bank :001_smile

I use an empty plastic razor blade dispenser that certain razor blade brands are sold in 5's or 10's. Mine's probably from Derby blades. I'm up to 51 used blades in it so far and there's room for more. I've probably got 7 or 8 more of these so I'm set for quite a while.

I use the $1 blade bank sold by our vendors. They're small enough to tuck away in any drawer and hold quite a few blades. I've got 160+ DE blades plus some blades from a razor knife in my current one and it still has room for more. When full I cover the slit with duct tape and toss in the trash.

+1 to these. Easiest and most convenient thing, and it's only $1

I've just been wrapping my old blade in the new blade's wrapper and tossing it in the trash. Not safe, I know. Not the best idea. I know. Hadn't thought of having a blade bank until now. Anyone got a link to the one a vendor here is selling? Couldn't find it.

So, once you get your blade bank filled up, what do you do with it??

Wrap it up in Duct tape and smash it with a hammer.

Depends. With the cheapies I get locally (the only DE blades sold locally) there's a sharps container built into the dispenser. If I've got a pack of those open and haven't filled up the sharps container yet, I use it. Otherwise I have a soda can that I've glued the top back closed with epoxy and cut a slit into that I drop them into. It cost me nothing, will hold probably a couple years worth of blades, and keeps my kids safe.

The black container I got from Island Health for Sharps. That is what I put my used blades in.
The others are from dental picks. They make great small blade storage boxes,

I use a pinaud hair gel can that came to me in the new member pif and it works great.

Out of curiosity I understand the safety aspect of not simply tossing blades but are there any disposal regulations on the matter? Has there ever been a serious issue as a result of blades in the garbage. I know people have been putting them in walls for years so blade banks seem to be as old as DE razors.

Regards
Dave
