What is this?

Is this rust? What's the best way to remove it?

I've had a couple of razors like that. You can remove the rust, but I bet the pattern of the rust remains on the blade face like an etching.

I wanted to say it was termites that made it, but I don't believe they are specially fond of Swedish steel.

Best just send it to me for disposal, those Heljistrands are toxic, or something....

I am ok with toxic Heljestrands...I live on the edge. :001_cool:

Wonder if that's concentrated from being put away with pooled up water? Just a thought.

Probably. Other than the rust the blade looks to be in great condition.

The photos were poor so I wasn't sure if the markings were rust or grease. BTW the blade was described as "some type of etching".

That type of rust is a pain to remove. And as Greybeard said marks will remain. Those blades are so thin you can't sand too much or the blade will become metal paper.
