What is this glue in boar brushes all about ?

Several times, when I've got a new boar brush, after some shaves, the brushes just stop making sense.
Like they get "dull". I suspect some glue getting out of the handle out to the knot.
It never happens with the badgers.

Is it an issue in the nature of the boar, or at the manufacturer ?

Hmm.. sounds wierd if the glue shows up after a while..

The Semogues does very often have a noticible "glue plug" that you can feel at the base of the knot.. is that what you meant?

First of all this doesn't make sense.
I assume you want to say that the brush performance to lather up a decent foam is not good anymore. If this is right, then there is nothing like glue from the knot base causing this. Do you have extremely hard water in your area? Do you use a regular shaving soap ? Is there some built up of soap or minerals in the brush?

Try cleaning the brush with dish washing liquid and than with citric acid dissolved in warm water or diluted vinegar, rinse it well with water then try lathering up some shaving soap again. If that doesn't help try using distilled water.

I don't understand? Are you saying your boar brushes get worse with use, instead of better?

if glue is getting into the knot after using, it sounds defective.

^ It usually happens with new boar brushes, between 5-10 lathering. The brush gets "dull", requires more soap and attention. Then I put them in a can filled with some shampoo and it's over.
