What is the SOC?

So i managed to get a SOC quite cheap last week and im curous how other people use it. Is the SOC generally regard as a bowl brush or more for face lathering or is it good at both? I have started the break in process by making lathers with it and leaving the lather to soak into the brush before cleaning it.

I use it to facelather, but that is because I only facelather. It is up to you which you prefer. The SOC is a fantastic brush by the way, great purchase.

Using an SOC for anything other than face lathering is a sin. Now I enjoy sinning as much as the next guy, but some lines should not be crossed.... :a7:

I used a Semogue SOC for the first time today. My only other brush is a Tweezerman so needless to say it was a huge improvement. Not knowing it was a sin (^), I bowl lathered using C.O. Bigelow shaving cream. Lots more lather than the Tweezerman with a lot less effort. The SOC was a lot easier on the face as well. I'm glad I made the switch.

I, too, only face lather and this is my other go-to brush, along with my 2011 Semogue LE bristle 2. I don't know what I'd do without these two.

It is good at both. I prefer face lathering with it.

At first I was not into the large size, now I love it. Quick break-in and very little funk. Awesome brush!!!

I have the mixed knot special edition and it is great. The handle is super comfy, so I could not resist and also ordered the boar and 2-band finest versions.

While I sometimes use my face as the lathering bowl, more often than not I use a scuttle - where the SOC is a champ. But I do not ridicule those who use their face as a bowl or eat with their fingers.

Brush size is definitely a personal thing. I suspect that the smaller brushes are more happily used by face latherers, but some people who face lather like a really big brush - so there are no defined stereotypes.

As someone who usually uses a scuttle, I hate a small brush - too much work. The smallest brush I voluntarily use (and not in my scuttle) is the B&B Essential.
