What is it about soaps that you prefer over creams?

Just got myself some Proraso soap and Musgo cream. I found that I prefer the soap. For some reason my skin looked and felt better after and during the shave.

So what is it about soaps that you prefer over creams?

Almost everytime I shave, I do so with SuperLather ... so I don't prefer one over the other, but see them as equal partners, like cream and sugar. Can't have one without the other.

A puck of soap tends to last much longer than a tub of cream. It has a longer shelf life than cream and is easier to stockpile for the coming Shavepocalypse.

The only cream I've tried is Proraso and I had difficulty lathering it. Probably mostly due to the fact that I don't think I was using enough product. I find I can really load the brush w/ soaps and get lots of lather. I don't seem to be making any kind of dent in any of my soaps, even w/ daily use.

Creams with strong scents irritate my skin. Soaps with strong scents do not irritate my skin. This is why I prefer soaps.

I find I get a better consitancy of lather with a soap than with a cream. But I only use the best soaps. In addition and as an added bonus, soaps are much better value for money.

I like 'em both.

and I also like the soft soaps (hard creams?) like Cella, My Time Bath & Body, Proraso Aloe, etc.

I use both, but soaps outperform creams IMO. On top of that, tallow outperform glycerin. Cushy, slick, and my skin feels better. I get better moisture from tallow also.

Have both, like both and use both. This to me is all about variety and sometimes the creams accomplish what I want and sometimes it's the soaps. I guess I need both.

Of the creams I've tried (EJ SeaBuckthorn and a load of GFT samples), the lather just doesn't seem to be as slick and lubricating as the soaps to me. I also happen to enjoy loading my brush up on soap as opposed to scouping a dollop of cream into a bowl. I do keep that tub of EJ SeaBuckthorn cream around for variety and when the cream mood strikes.

I love face lathering with soaps. Face lathering with creams is ok, but there's something great about loading the brush with soap and enjoying adding water slowly to build up the lather.
