What's new

What is in your DE travel setup?

What razor do you use for your travel razor? Do you use the same razor each time you travel, or do you simply take the next razor that is in your normal rotation? I've only taken one trip since I started using a DE. Wewent camping for 4 nights in Colorado, and I decided to take along my '57 Redtip SS loaded with a Wilkinson Sword Premium Chromium blade. I also took along my Tweezerman brush (since it's the only one I have:001_rolle), a tube of Erasmic cream, and my Adidas Sport Fever AS, since that's my wife's favorite.

I used to put the flare-tip "regular" superspeed in the dopp, but a slim has taken its place. I keep coming back to the slims when I'm at home, so it only seemed natural to keep one handy when I'm on the road.

For travel, I have a ball-end tech, a Wee Scot brush and a stick of Arko. When broken down, the razor and brush take up minimal space. With an Iridium blade, I get a great shave out of this set-up. And if anything gets lost, I'm not out very much.

I have way too much travel shaving kit... when I was away last month, I used this kit

with the razor (I think it's an open comb Tech) and the styptic holder from this set

along with a Wee Scot. The blade was an Indian Black, soap was an Erasmic shavestick, and the cologne bottle filled with Pinaud Bay Rum.

The great thing about these sets is the canisters hold modern shavesticks, and a Boots styptic will fit perfectly into the holder.

  • Franken-tech -- Tech head on a (2-piece) Merkur travel handle. All of which collapses down into an aprox. 2x2 "wallet".
  • Astra Super Plat. blade(s)
  • brushless SC -- the only time I use creams or brushless. Currently using Kiehl's non-mentholated version. May switch to Alba/Trader Joe's at some point when this runs out.

Last trip it was a Schick Krona. Even though my preferred daily razors are injectors and SEs, I've got a bunch of decent DE razors, and if necessary, it would be easier to find blades for them on the road. In the past I've also used a flair tip SS and a Parker 92R. I have duplicates of the Krona and the SS, so if I did happen to lose one, it wouldn't be as bad as some of my nicer razors.

Any shave stick, and a boar brush. No AS, which I don't use anyway. If I'm flying, I mail the blades ahead if possible to avoid paying for checked luggage.

In my shaving kit for travel or the gym I have some odds & ends: '66 slim and Personnas in Gillette case, VDH brush for face lathering, Lebanese Gillette cream, Aqua Velva in plastic bottle, Clubman styptic pencil just in case!

When I'm checking in my luggage I take a murker HD because if it gets lost it is easily replaced and the razor shaped silhouette wont matter if it is checked in.

If I am only taking carry on I take a ball handled tech broken down so it is less noticeable on the x-ray machine. Generally you wont have a problem with taking a DE on a plane but you will the blades. It can be a problem if you are going places DE blades are hard to buy. Like most of Australia.

I take whatever strikes my fancy at the time that I'm packing for the trip. One trip it was a Red Tip, this last trip it was my gold New...

I usually take one of my Mama Bear's soaps because of the screw-on lid, but during this last trip I picked up a small tube of CO Bigelow's shave cream and I'll probably be taking that next time I travel...

I'm glad to see this thread as I wanted to pose the same question this weekend, but figured it had been beaten to death. Searching, though, revealed little similar in the archives!

I just got a travel tech without a case on eBay. I'm wondering if someone has a suggestion on how to store it on the trip. I'll also take a brush and tube of Proraso, and face lather.

This was my setup last year...

I have added a glue stick of PdP instead of the small cream tub recently though.

Tech, Speick stick with 35mm film can cover...also doubles as the Wee Scot soaking "mug", Feathers, and PdP glue stick are my minimum travel kit.

Currently:
Mergress standard (was a Gillette Slim until recently)
Arlington stick
Tweezerman brush
Skin Bracer

I ship blades ahead of time if I'm flying.

I'm working on getting a kit together. I'm gonna keep it simple. just my merkur long handle. a shave stick and my tweezerman I don't really care what happens to it because it was only like $10, if it gets beat to hell in my backpack...so be it, that just adds character. and I think I'll pack some shark blades because they are in a plastic holder.

When I'm traveling that is the only time I feel 100% in my element and as always I'm all about the bare minimums.

The travel kit I am using now is:

EJDE89L with Mühle case
Wee Scot
Wilkinson Sword Shaving stick
Small container of Blenheim SC and ASB
Selection of DE blades. Swedes, Iridium Super, and Red IP's

backup razor is:

Simplified Schick Automatic Razor with Personna 74 blades

I'm going to Melbourne for 3 days and I'm taking few soaps, creams, ASBs and blade sampler (they already have razors and brushes) etc... but it's all gifts to few males in my family. For me I'm taking my trusty HD, pack of blades, and shaving stick, either ogala or speick.
