What is as good as AOS Sandlewood?

I've been using AOS Sandlewood for the last few days and I have had the best shaves! This stuff is amazing! Is this a case of you get what you pay for?
My question is for those that have used it, what other soaps compare?

(I'd like to start building my x-mas list :w00t:)

AoS soaps are made by Valobra, a great traditional Italian soap factory. Valobra stick, branded directly with the logo of the company, is comparable to AoS soaps in terms of quality and performance, just at a lower price and with a different scent.

I've tried a lot of soaps, but never tried one better than the AoS sandalwood.

Still, other great choices abound- GFT and D. R. Harris make some terrific hard soaps, and QED makes some amazing glycerine based soaps. Fans of other brands will chime in shortly.

AOS Lavender soap. Just not much else can touch it in efficacy.

SMN cream compares to my face .

Speick stick is thick and tallowy also.

A lot of guys think the European Palmolive stick is similar in performance.

The Lemon is better to me.:001_smile

I love lemon and lime creams and soaps, and the AoS lemon is a natural suggestion. I just find the scent to be a bit too light. Same for their lavender- both their lavender and lemon creams have a stronger scent than their soap counterparts (and are great creams, to boot).

If you want to knock AoS, you'll have to get on line behind me, but their soaps and creams are top notch.

So true. I've had the lemon and lavender soap for a while, and sometimes ... I reach for one and can't tell them apart:blink: Faint, but nice.

The good thing about lemon is ... it seems to be the only one that goes on sale from time to time at half price, so I hoarded like a mad man.

Well, I can tell them apart.

(I keep them in old AoS cream containers.)

Now that's an endorsement!

AOS has the best sandlewood of any that I have tried including the T & H and their Lemon is amazing as is the lavendar. I do not like the unscented because it is....well, unscented. They actually make a pack with the cream, oil, a/s, badger brush, etc for $100 which is a great deal and I bought several. I also have several of their brushes and the one that I have used is as good as the Rooney's and not as floppy as the Kents nor Shavemacs IMHO. Everyone brings up the price but it is a quality product, lasts, and never disappoints. I did just buy a Grafton from T & H that I like also.

I think that GFT and TOBS soaps are great hard milled soaps. The scents are wonderful and they lather extremely well.

Enjoy,

Doug

AOS is the best soap I've yet tried. Czech & Speak should perform similar but I don't know if the cost is worth it. A Volobra milled stick should perform similar but I don't think it's triple milled. AoS Lavender is just as good a scent as the Sandalwood IMHO. My guess is Lemon is the same.

That's it! AoS sandalwood is officially on my birthday wish list, wife's objections to the den spilling out into the hallway be damned! :cursing:

Any of the AoS soaps are great, as long as PG doesn't mess up the formulation (the web site says nothing about tallow, hint, hint). Other than those, the old stand by's are Tabac and MWF. Love the Fat.

AOS unscented
Valobra
Kalani soap (better, IMHO)
