What I Learned Brush Loading & Lathering

When I load my Rooney Silvertip brush (which is awesome by the way) I really don't apply much pressure at all with the brush. It gets the brush loaded fairly well and creates a pretty good lather. I knew I could do better than that. So today I tried applying more pressure when loading and the brush was loaded a lot better, and it created a lot more lather.

I do a combination of both. I start with very little to no pressure, just allowing the wetness of the brush to emulsify the top layer of soap. Then, as I load, I begin to add a bit more pressure so I can pick up more product.

More product is good! I have found that some soaps, even the hard milled, just load differently with different brushes. As my soap inventory and brush inventory expanded, I found that I needed to pay attention to the brush/soap combination to get the best out of each. One constant that I found to be true is that the more product rule holds true for me.

Doug

I guess I am using more product.

There used to be a title here, I believe it was given at a rather low number of posts. "I used more product and it worked." That is why what I said was humorous. Feel free to laugh and congratulate me on my rapier wit at your soonest convenience.

Recently I started losing my love for DR Harris becasue it just wasn't holding up. This morning I used "more product". You know what? It worked!
The lather was far richer, more cushion, and...best of all...it held up well for three passes.

Who'd thought?

I typically load for 15-30 seconds depending on the soap. It can be tough to find the sweet spot as some soap behave totally differently mid-lather.
