What's new

What have I got?

I hope this is the right forum to post this...

I knew my dad used to have some straight razors - not for use, just ones he picked up at antique shops. I finally found one of them after looking through some of his old stuff.

Can anybody give me any opinions or history on this razor? It says "Craftsman" on the blade and handle - it was made in Germany. Also, it says 9210 on the metal near where the metal curves. And yes, that is a liberal amount of rust on the metal.

The photos show the case that it came in. Also, as you can see, the handle is plastic and cracked.

Sears Craftsman - interesting. I'm guessing that it might not be "that" old then? Probably not worth trying to restore and shave with?

Might not be worth restoring to resell for a great profit, otoh if you're looking for a shaver it might be interesting.

I've heard those are great shavers.

However, is that rust that I see in those pictures on the blade?

Yeah, it's rust.

I'm wanting to start straight shaving soon, so that is why I was trying to find some of these old razors my dad had in hopes of getting one I can send off for honing, then maybe invest in a strop and other necessities. I'm trying to figure out the best way to get into straight shaving cheaply. :001_smile

You have got what looks to be like a dead razor. Way too much rust on the edge for me to even consider looking at it.

Sorry. I'm being brutally honest here.

No problem. Honesty is all I'm looking for. :001_smile I'm hoping I can find some of dad's other razors and maybe one of them will be in better condition.

That's what I was getting at Leighton.

Something about having a Craftsman razor just seems cool to me.
