What's new

What did I just buy?

Snagged this on etsy a while ago because it's a model I don't have and the price seemed fair. Anybody know exactly what it is? A Rocket of some sort?

Thanks in advance.

It looks to me more like a Milady, except for the collar by the head. The Rocket usually has a separation between the knob and the shaft when the doors are closed, but I'm no expert.

Good eyes. Yes it looks to be an HD Rocket. If it is all nickel covered brass it will weigh around 71-71 grams. If some of the components are aluminum (handle, TTO knob) then it could be 56-57 grams.

About the missing gap above the TTO knob, I've see a couple where the head was a little loose on the handle and the unsuspecting operator twisted the head or handle instead of the knob. This will close the doors but leaves the razor in a state where the knob will not open the doors. To clear up this condition unscrew the head to the open position. Then while holding the head to the handle tighten the knob. If every thing is in time and working then reopen using the knob and see if the handle / head union can be peened tight.

+1 to all of this. Check out this video that Tony.T posted not that long ago in this thread of an Aristocrat he had with the same issue:

Thats a #52a Anivesry set razor, 1952

It might well be. My eyes are not that good any more. Even holding one in your hand sometimes I need to turn them to get the lighting just right to better see which parts are aluminum or nickel. Mr-razor does a bang up job as usual showing the differences in this thread.

Thanks for all the input guys! It looks like I've got a little repair work ahead of me, but that's fine. I've repaired a few vintage DEs before. I might create a thread when it comes in though (shipping from France) and have you more experienced types walk me through it.
