What did I buy?

Gentlemen,

I am a DE shaver and occasionally use an SE. I would like to try a straight sometime in the not too distant future. I like to hunt for razors in the wild. I know a fair bit about DE's and even a bit about SE's, but have no knowledge about straights. I see alot of straights while hunting, but I do not feel comfortable buying any because of my lack of knowledge. But...I did buy one today. I don't know anything about it, but I really like the looks of it and I got it for under $10 dollars so I felt comfortable enough to buy it regardless of what it turns out being. Can any of you fine gentleman tell me anything about what I bought?

Also, the box says "Imperial Razor - Extra Hollow Ground - Fully Warranted"

I am not an expert, but, will answer anyway!:001_smile

The main thing about any vintage straight razor is corrosion and wear. Your razor does not seem to have a corrosion problem. That's good. It also has a near-wedge shape. That is cool. It makes this blade a bit of a challenge to sharpen (at least to me).

The historical reference to the Indiana is quite enough to make this razor a collectible. Congratulations!

The hone wear, particularly around the toe, would make this one a bit of a challenge to restore and use, but the etching of the Indiana on the blade could make this quite collectable to a number of people outside the shaving world. It also helps date the blade, as the Indiana was commissioned in 1895. I say $10 well spent!

Also looks like it has a slight frown to the edge, but I wonder if you took the heel down some if you could turn it into a smile with the toe wear that is has?
