Wembdon Lavender Shaving Soap - vintage

picked this up while out and about. NOS looks like.

Doesn't seem to be any fragrance left.

I can't imagine that there is a lot of "lavender" left in that one, Jim, but the shaving should be good! Nice pick-up.

Enjoy the shave. I have an old yardley and love it. The old stuff is fantastic. Be liberal with the water as it needs to hydrate. I usually add a bit of water to the soap before I start to lather.

I've only experienced one vintage soap that was a dud (MacGregor), so odds are your soap will perform beautifully. Enjoy the lather!

Nice to know, I have a NOS MacGregor, I think I will just leave it as it is. This one will be sitting around on a shelf for a while - I have so many others that I am working through. I really like vintage soaps - I guess the only thing that is a ding against them is that usually the scent is long gone. That isn't a deal breaker for me though.

Jim, I have a puck of that and its not Yardley- but it is a good soap. It does "make the beard react immediately" though, :001_cool:

Now how do you do that and could I take a vintage puck that has no scent left and do that same thing?

Yes.....but the technique works best on older ,dried out pucks that are happy to absorb the moisture.I recently bought a nice wooden bowl of "His Excellency" soap .Scent was gone,so I gave it an overnight soak in pure lavender oil.Now I get that great scent with every shave. If you get down deeper into the puck where the oil did not penetrate, just soak it again...

I have done something like that with an old shave stick and EdC. I decanted a few mL of EdC into a very small ceramic bowl, and used that to soak the tip of the stick overnight. In the morning the EdC was mostly gone, and the stick had picked up some scent. The new scent was only on the surface of the soap, though. I was worried that the alcohol might cause problems, but the soap seems to lather just as well as before.

If I wanted to try the same thing with a puck I think I would use a sealed glass container. Or re-mill the soap and mix the scent in at the same time.
