Welsh dragons tongue

I have one of these on the way, does anyone use it for finishing at all, i wanted something a bit faster than my c12k i've heard the welsh finishes a little bit better.

Anyone?

DT is not as fine as C12 but you can shave of it. DT is faster than C12 but gets easily loaded and needs cleaning often. Lately I have found that the colour on the later ones is lighter than before as well as that feel of grit could be dependent on how finely you lap it.

Thanks, i'll lap it very fine and see where that gets me i have quite a few sheets here anyway.

Just keep cleaning the dust off the paper otherwise it will make it to last less. Do not be affraid to start with very low grit and work it up and you will find it as quite fast job.
I will be in the quarry with the stone cutter on Sunday as I want to try different colours od DT.

I bought one and I would rate mine (others hones may be different, they are natural) at about 6k. You can shave off of it, but it isn't a very good one IMO. It works nice in an all natural progression. It acts like a BBW, but it cuts quicker with water.

I am still trying to figure the DT out. When lapped with coarse sandpaper, it is a very quick cutter. When polished, it seems to fit well between coti w/slurry (when used with slurry) and BBW and then between BBW and first polisher (with water only).

I used one for quite a while for just that reason - coarse lapped on one side and very finely polished on the other. The few that I have used I would rate at around 8,000 grit - I shaved off them with no problem.

You can also find difference between honing on the face of DT and the edge. The edge is much harder. Differences between DTs can be also due to supply as there is no one consistent type of slate used for them. I have found after Sparq gave me an idea that finer DTs seem to be darker colour which you will only notice after you have lapped the stone and wetted it on the edge.
