i work in a business where i need to have good hearing, and it always makes me cringe when my wife puts the hair dryer on full blast in our tiny bathroom. it makes my ears hurt from 10' away.

i say that to provide some background info, just to let you know how i know where to find good hair dryers... :001_tongu

as posted, walmart and target are good places to find one on the cheap, although there are some nicer ones there. there are some good professional quality hair dryers at sally beauty supply, and although some claim to be "quiet", that's a little subjective. if you have a sally beauty supply near you, check it out. they are also the only local store i found who sell barbicide.

The only advise I can give is that my wife has curly hair and has to buy one with a diffuser. Other than that, going to drugstore or amazon and picking out the top rated one available in your price range is about the only suggestion I can make.

My ex switched to an ionic hair dryer and swears it helped her hair. They're sold wherever other hair dryers are sold (Target, etc.).

My Fiance and I use the Conair Infinity Ionic. Very happy with it. Picked it up for under 50, and the ionic saves time.

My wife has a regular navy blue Conair. Basic and effective.

Although I keep my hair short and never use a hair dryer, I actually have this one (and my wife hates to use it):
