Weber Razors

Does anyone know if the threads on the Weber polished head are any tighter than the DLC head?

I have a Weber DLC which I love but have been disappointed with the loose threads on the head since day one. While I have not been happy with this I never really gave it much thought as I figured Weber would stand behind their product should anything happen. After recently running across another old post where there was discussion on the customer service received from Weber for rusting issues on a similar razor I was shocked to see the threads on that razor stripped as well and Weber was not as responsive as hoped. This has made me hesitate in buying the new Weber and look to other options although I love the shave of the DLC.

Also, if anyone has experience with both, any comments on the similarity/differences in performance would be appreciated as well.

Thanks.

I have experience with the polished head. I can say that the head is very tight. I have only seen videos of the DLC head, and have seen that it's much looser than my polished head. Would you like me to post a video?

All I can say is that I /love/ my polished Weber wave. It is of superior quality and offers a great shave.

It is a hit or miss.

"This does not happen with the polished head" . This actually happened to me and returned the razor to manufacturer on my dime.
I have a DLC with better threads (major diameter 4.7mm, 4.67mm actually) but it was the third razor bought. I returned the other two that had MD of 4.2mm

I briefly owned an ARC
and a polished with the same problem. The polished head looked to me like an ARC that had the coating removed, at least the one I had, although I could be wrong.

I do hope the next batch will be free of flaws because I really like the polished razor and will buy again. Just not now, since having to pay postage for the return of a product is not something I am easy about.

Good luck.

Here is my DLC with better threads:

Thanks Toucan! That video shows my concern exactly! If the polished one is indeed tight I may just have to go ahead and buy one! I hope others can chime in on the shave comparison.

No problem. The thing about the DLC is that I can never get over the black head. It's rather unsightly, imo.

Thanks VerbaVolant! And I swing back to other alternatives! If this is indeed a hit or miss situation maybe I will wait until this settles down a bit especially if you have to pay the return postage!

I have a Polished head and a DLC(looking for an ARC if anyone has one) and I don't notice a difference between the two heads' tightness. I'd say I switch in between the two almost every other shave.

I think the notion of "tighter threads" should be explained since it is often misunderstood.
In my opinion, the thread with major diameter of 4.2mm is not acceptable.
I will leave it here.

My apologies if I was unclear. By "tight" I meant better sized to the handle. The DLC head I have seems to have an undersized post thread for the handle. I have put a EJ89 head on the Weber handle the threads seem to be a larger diameter and not wobble while screwing in. Even when the DLC head is most of the way on the handle it will still wobble excessively IMO. I actually feel like the threads will strip if I tighten too much as they feel they are barely grabbing.

Unfortunately I can not get a decent picture of my DLC head (I will keep trying) but it looks like my threads taper to the end rather then the cylindrical look of VerbaVolant's above.

I had one and sold it for that vary reason.

If the handle would have been black to match I would still have it. I shaved with it a couple of times and enjoyed the shave but could not get over the mismatch color so stopped using it

I ended up buying a polished head only that I enjoy using

Oh and about the threads. No issue with either one I have owned.

I have seen people talk about "loose threads" several times, but has anyone ever had an issue with it beyond a little wobble before it is tightened? The Ikon and Tradere I previously owned had about the same amount of wobble as my Weber, as do my current EJ and Muhle. I have never had an issue - in use - with any of them. Too tight of tolerances would be more likely to causes problems than a little loose. I guess I am struggling to see the real issue.

TallyShave, there is a noticeable difference between my Tradere, EJ and Muhle as well. If I put the Weber head on any of the handles it still has the same excessive wobble (IMO) but if I put any of the other heads on the Weber handle they are fine (tighter). The video link above is similar to my razor but none of my other razors have this amount of play.

I have not had any issues other than the feeling it was going to strip on tightening and also wondered if any one else had any negative experiences,if they had a "loose" handle.
