Watch repair

Where do you all send your watches for service? I am looking for both wrist and pocket. Thanks in advance.

You've opend a HUGE can of worms with this one! Check out watchuseek's thread "saving our time: Australian Petition" or some such which. Rolex et al are becoming extortionists and doing everything they can do put independent watchmakers out of business. Send a watch in to Rolex for service with a few scrapes on the bracelet? It gets binned and a new one put on.....for $1,200. This happened to one mark..er..customer. He demanded the bracelet that he paid for and reasonably therefore assumed he owned and was told "It's not yours, it Rolex's and they've kept it' [reason? It does not reflect well on the company to have such a scuffed item on display] I will never buy Swiss again and am in fact seriously considering an Orient Datejust as an anti-statement. Rolex can eat my shorts!

I sent my watch to Motor City Watch Works to have a replacedment crystal installed. Their web site has a menu of services they perform.

This was just for a cheapie Orient Mako watch but when I called around locally, I got too much "you'll need to bring it in for us to determine if we can do the work".

I own a Rolex and have owned one since 1969...When I send it in for service they polish case and bracelet if I request. If I say "no"
they don't. I know a guy who had a motorcycle accident and his Rolex took the brunt...He asked for the crystal and crown to be
replaced but leave the scarred bracelet....They polished but left the deep scars. It's his reminder to not ride bikes.

I usually take mine to the manufacturer boutiques (Rolex, Cartier, Panerai), or Tourneau if its simple (replace bands, etc).

I've sent three different Rolex watches back for service over the years, and never had a problem. Two of them had the case and bracelet polished as part of the service. Again, I've never had a problem with the RSC. I have not had the same luck with Omega's service.
