Wapienica, Wapi Straight Razor

I understand that the Wapi is a Polish made razor. How is the quality compared to other well known makers. How much do they cost? Are they currently in production? If so, where should I look if interested in buying one?

It's a good razor. Only problem is the steel scales make it a little heavy.

Mike Ratliff at www.thewellhonedrazor.com has them for $55 I think. You can probably get them cheaper elsewhere, but I wouldn't know where to point you. I think mine was $40 when I ordered from him, prices must have gone up.

I have 2 Wapi's. I had both rescaled and that made all the difference in balance. They take a good edge and the price is really hard to beat!

If you want to hone your own, do a search on eBay. open_razor currently has a few NOS.

I'll even stick my neck out a bit further. Of the ones I have worked on, they sharpen up just about as good as all but a very few other razors on the market... past and present. For the money, I don't think anything beats them.

Bill,

Do you have any experience with the Chinese Double Arrows that Wojtek sells? I'm hearing good things about them.

If you are a member at. Can't remember the price, but it is cheaper, I think, than any of the prices listed above - not honed, though.

I've heard good and bad things. I have one out now for honing, so i can tell you more when it returns. One thing I can say now is the scales and pins are the worst I have seen. I was not planning on keeping them anyway.

I bought 2 Double Arrow from Wojtec for $26 shipped, from eBay
The razor is great, easy to hone, the scales is a different story, but I don't shave with them.

Hello community,

So I was contemplating the purchase of a Wapienica, Wapi Straight Razor, with Bloodwood scales from fendrihan. I was wondering if anyone has heard of and/or tried using said razor?

I personally have a soft spot for Wapis: It is a great shaver!

I've used Wapi's. I remember them as pretty good; I haven't used one at least a year (probably more).

You can get them NOS on ebay for about $42 shipped (even that is expensive, IMO - I remember paying maye $25). They are very scale heavy originally, so a rescale is a good idea, but not essential. My point is just keep in mind how much you are paying for the rescale and honing if you buy the one you are looking at.

Some have issues with the shoulder's crumbling after a few honings... something else to keep in mind.

Well I'm glad to hear some positive reviews. I have in fact purchased the razor, and eagerly await it's arrival. I'm a bit nervous as it's my first jump from DE to straight.

It was my first jump into a strait. I was kind of disappointed with it, but I may have expected too much from a strait razor shave. I've been spoiled by shavettes with feather blades.

Everyone seems to give it much praise, and its really nice to look at. If anything it looks great. Although its very heavy, and sometimes difficult to maneuver.

Honestly, I've never considered the imbalance issue to be any kind of issue at all. I really like the Wapis.

I have a wapi in my rotation and its gr8, I also use and old "gates" and a "joseph rogers" and they all shave as well as the wapi. Another + to the wapi.
