Walgreen's Deluxe Shave Soap

Yes, alot of us started with this soap. Pucks are sold at Pharmacies as in this picture, as well as a mug, brush and puck set for under $10.

It is adequate for the job of shaving, and a good starter soap. That basically summarizes other threads I believe.

I only bought the soap because I went in to get a brush for my two-year-old son. He wants one of daddy's brushes but since those are 'spensive we'll go with the $8 one for him. When he gets bored with it I'll give it a go. :w00t:

At $2 a puck, the pharmacy is gouging you. Not uncommon though. Wally World has it cheaper and you can get the stuff on Amazon in bulk, 12 for $20, which is still overpriced compared to $1.54 a puck. Go ahead and use it many people have it in their rotation and others will melt it down and add their favorite AS or Cologne scent to it to make it better.

Yeah, I saw it for $1.50 at Walmart. I can get it for $1.25 at the BX on a Military Base. I've got a small stash of them. Waiting for them to get in more.

Williamsport Barber Supply has a pack of 8 cakes of 'Stephans' soap (which I suspect is really VDH) ay US$9.95.

Great stuff, is VDH - 20 seconds in the microwave to liquefy it then add 10-15 drops of your preferred fragrance oils.

Interesting! I have some M-bomb menthol drops that would probably make that soap an ice cake!

Ok, I melted the puck in my Old Spice mug, added 10-12 drops of M-Bomb, and then added a couple splashes of Royal Lime.

I tossed it into the fridge and when I got home it was set. I hand lathered some tonight and I like the consistency of the soap. It definitely smelt limey too. I'll have to try some tomorrow and see how the menthol amount worked.

MWF for the first time or sorta homemade...

It's possible but I think that Stephans has been around a long time. They have other products available in barber supply stores. One of which is a brushless shave cream that is supposed to smell like coconut. It doesn't lather so I'm not interested in it. But there is a review of it here on B&B.

How many sprays of cologne would y'all recommend adding to one melted puck?

I really don't know since I added Royal Lime ASL to my first attempt. I shaved with it this morning lathering up with a 2006 LE brush and shaving with a Feather AS with a Astra SP blade.

I added the Royal Lime and some menthol drops but was light on the ASL because I wanted to soap to become solid again and wasn't sure how much liquid was too much.

Anyway, it smelled great, felt great, gave me a very smooth shave and I liked it a lot. It looks cool in my Old Spice mug and I can definitely see doing it again using on of my Trumper sample colognes after decided on which one I like best.
