Vulfix 2233 Boar - Any tips?

So I just got my first boar brush, a Vulfix 2233 Boar Bristle from Shoebox Shave Shop, after seeing it in this thread and falling in love. I use Tabac and had been dissatisfied with the lathers I was getting lately with my Col. Conk's PBB.

Any tips?
Is there a different way to lather with a boar brush? I've been using the method described in this tutorial with my badger brush. I've also heard boar brushes are good for "face lathering."
Is there a way to get that smell out faster than "just using it?"

I have a Vulfix boar and really enjoy it. You can shampoo it, rinse well, and repeat. Or just keep using it, the smell will disappear and the performance will get better and better.

I'm going to attempt a couple test lathers to get the smell out.

First try using the above method, I ended up with a watery thing I can't call a lather.
Second try, I dumped out the water on the soap and left the brush soaked, and that didn't work either.

EDIT
Third try, I dumped out the water and wrung out the brush and ended up with a very soap creme. When I added water, all of it soaked up into the brush. :|

Well I don't have that Vulfix boar brush but my recent Boreal works well following that tutorial farily closely.

I soak my brush for at most a minute, give it one good shake where most of the water is tossed out. Then pour off all prewetting water on my soap, then scrub up a heavy cream with the brush.

This I use to face lather mostly, but if I go to a bowl I would add small amounts of water a couple of times to build lather in the bowl.

My boar brush scrubs up quite a load of soap quickly as it is very dense and has much more backbone than my ancient old EverReady boar.

Just keep experimenting with water amounts...I think you may have too much water to start with or too little to scrub off the soap...I am sure that helps eh:biggrin:.

My Boreal has zero smell BTW.

I got it! I just overestimated the bite of the brush and wasn't charging it on the soap long enough. I'll post a shave report tomorrow.

The picture shows the brush with as much lather as I could scoop out; there's still about 20% of it left in the bowl! Sorry about the size.

Try shaking the brush almost completely dry and using the water from the top of your soap. It already has soap in it and why put it to waste.

Brodirt, I will give that a go tomorrow. I probably have too much presoaking water normally though, but will try a couple extra shakes to clear the brush. If I bowl lather I dump that prewet water off to the bowl.

Funny all these folks buying the wrong boar eh?

Believe it or not, that's a camera phone. The pretty factor is why I bought it, but it's very solid. The handle has great weight to it, and I have only seen it lose one hair. It's a lot smaller than I expected (the knot is 20mm).

I lathered up for my morning shave and ended up with just enough lather in my bowl for 3 passes. It felt great on the face, though. It wasn't prickly or floppy like my PBB.

I should try this face lathering I keep hearing about next...
