VITALIS... I need a LESS SMELLY option.

So, I've started using Vitalis recently, and its working well.
My wife says I look "old school."
I love the way the stuff works, but the smell is killing me!:cryin:

Are there any nice-smelling hair tonics that work just like Vitalis?

I don't know about "nice" but Jeris with oil might be an alternative. Stop by your local Sally's Beauty and give it a whiff.

Any of the Pashana line and Pinaud's Eau de Quinine and Eau de Portugal. If you want a more pricey option I really like Eau de Portugal. It is not really "better" than the others but I like it a lot. BTW, I cannot stand the Vitalis scent either. About every two years I get the urge to try it. I go to the store, crack the top and give it a sniff. I put the bottle back on the shelf and I am good to go for another two years.

Regards, Todd

To me it smells like Aqua Net hairspray when it first goes on. I have had good results with Groom n Clean, to me it smells a little like lemon.

leave the top off of the bottle and set it in the back of the cabinet or closet .check it about every two weeks.some of the aromatics evap or fade and the smell weakens.i did this with a generic version.

just about any alcohol-based splash works reasonably well as a hair tonic, from what i understand (correct me if i'm wrong) hair tonic is basically alcohol that dilutes your hair oils in order to use them as a "natural pomade", some has added oils, waxes, but the bodysense (family dollar/dollar general) is just alcohol, water and fragrance

UPDATE: I put three squirts of my strongest cologne on this morning and yet all I can smell is still this %@$# Vitalis! :mad3:

I saw the Pinaud and Pashana on Amazon.com. Do they have oil/wax in them like Vitalis does? Eau de Portugal sounds like a real winner to me.

Pinaud's EDP does not have oil/wax. And it happens to work quite well as a splash aftershave.

Brylcream. Switched to it this week after years of using that nasty gooey stuff that either caked my hair into clumps or flaked and gave me the appearance of dandruff. Does not have a "greasy" look if you use it sparingly but gives amazing control.

Actually I use a combination of Jeris non-oil and Brylcream. Put th Jeris in while hair wet then blow dry. Finish it up with an almost dime size dab of Brylcream. Wife is meh but I love the "old school" Mad Men hair look.

+1 on the Jeris. I use the one without oil and the smell is nice. Nice meaning adequately pleasant, not over powering. :thumbup1:

I gotta second the vote for Groom & Clean. While my hair is fairly short, it works well for me. The scent is kinda minty and lemony, not overpowering, and leaves my hair a little glossy without the heavy oily "greaser" look. Being water-soluble, it washes out easily, too. Not drying and stiff feeling like a gel, either. For me, it also has the added benefit of making my hair appear a little darker brown than it is, maybe the slight blue tint of it cancels out some of the red?
