I visited Gentlemen's Best in Southington, CT today for the first (but not the last) time.

Other than the fact that I had to wait 3-minutes for Ray to arrive and open 1-minute late, the visit was a delight and Ray was interesting and informative.

I considered publishing a list of my purchases here, but I decided not to bore you all with what I purchased.

What I want to tell you all is that even for the experienced, Ray is informative and can offer innovative suggestions.

If any of you are in the area (about 20-minutes from downtown Hartford, except during rush hours where you can't get there from anywhere), it's really worth a visit.

Thats what you get for showing up 2 mins early!!!

+1 to visiting Ray's shop...well worth the trip! Still have to get back there minus the twins this time and have him walk me through some stone work...

At least there was a bench.

But no discount.

His shop is on my list of places to visit. The family and I want to go to the east coast next year for vacation. If we're able to go I will definitely stop by!

Remember, this thread is worthless without pics! :001_tt2:

++++1
Every time I am nowhere near the shop I stop by.
Ray's knowledge and off the cuff attitude improved my technique tenfold. Hell of a guy, and I try to buy from him when possible. Support your local shop!! Save a few bucks online? Maybe, but saving americana and your neighborhood shop is priceless.
I cannot say enough about the place.
Highly recommended.

You've obviously confused us with a different board.

At first I thought, "Really? On this board?"

Then I realized he's employing reverse psychology.

So... You're right. I don't want to know. Don't you dare tell us!

:)wink2:)

Ok, I'll take some photos this afternoon and post them.

I will also make another visit to Ray's, and another, and another, and ..........

You really must be kidding about being one minute late. A small privately owned shop. There was no need to post that. Ray is a great guy to deal with.

I was kidding. I am surprised you didn't recognize that, and the form of humor it represented.

Had you asked me, I would have explained it to you.

Please explain exactly what determines "need" in a complimentary posting.

Here are the promised photos of my visit to Gentlemen's Best yesterday.

The Blades were Ray's gift to me. He's right too .... I could have enjoyed a coffee but was on the run. Next time.
