Video of my 3rd shave with the Feather SS

So as of this morning, I have had 2 great shaves with my feather SS, and I was ready for my 3rd. Feeling quiet confident, I decided to film my 3rd shave. Only took 7:33s to get a mostly BBS shave. Almost BBS on my chin, but BBS everywhere else. I'm in love with this razor, although I know a ton of you guys aren't. That's OK with me, to each their own. =D

Let me know what you think of my technique, and if you have any tips/comments, I'm all ears. I spared you the prep/post work, as it's pretty straight forward.

Sorry for the horrid quality. The original video looks decent, but it was 175MB. When I uploaded it, I opted to reduce quality for easier viewing, however, now it looks really grainy. Oh well. Enjoy.

Your technique is excellent. What Feather blade are you using?

Nice video.

Excellent technique, if you ask me... looked like a great shave!

I love/hate my AC it shaves like an angry light saber. It effortlessly cuts threw everything, beard, soap, my face, the wall next to me. It's like a relationship with a beautiful woman who is a terrible terrible person.... you love them, but they just hurt you... A LOT :blushing:

Anyway the only blades that I can tame are the light ones. YMMV but I really like them, and I can generally get away with out a blood trail using them. Any of the full length blades and I'm doomed.

I fell off a bicycle tonight.

Funny thing, my first thought as soon as I realized I cut my chin.....

OH NO! TOMORROW'S SHAVE IS RUINED!

Beautiful stuff! Thanks for posting this man. You and all these other Feather threads have got me checking out the razors, even though I've got zero straight razor experience. Sigh...

Sorry about your bike crash :( Hope it heals quickly.

Truth be told most of us have had our fair share of weepers using (or should I say misusing) the incredibly sharp Feather. I don't have any recent pictures to share, but my son has called me Edward Scissorhands on more than one occasion. :yikes::lol:Even the best of us can let our guard down with the mighty Feather and pay the bloody price. But when done right it is still an amazing shaver.

Thanks for sharing the vid Lawrence. Your technique is very good for someone who has only used the razor 3 times! I started with straights myself but the last year I've used the Feather and Kai razors most of the times, IMO the best shaving system as far as results go. You look really confident in using this razor and I believe that's part of a successful shave with a feather blade, if your hesitant in the strokes you're prone to cuts.

If you don't mind me saying I think looking at your video that you still use a bit to much pressure on the razor. You might try another grip where you put your pinkie under the razor (thumb and pinkie under, the others on top), that gives a better balance and allows to use the lightest of touch possible.

If you're confident you can use a lateral buffing stroke (very small less then a centimeter strokes) on the chin, BBS guaranteed. I'm sure in a month or so you'll be a expert with your SS.

The short lateral strokes are also my preferred XTG finish on my chin. I make a face like saying a big "E" with a smile and stick my chin out to tighten the surface. I start about two inches back and work laterally across the chin with short, light strokes at below 30 degrees. Takes me three laps to cover top, middle, and looking up below the chin. That should get it BBS for you.

I definitely like the Feather AC and clones.

Once you get used to them, they are kind of addicting. I really enjoy getting a great shave with so little effort. I converted almost completely to them about six weeks ago. I still use a traditional straight but not nearly as much as I did.

Oh... I can't navigate the corners of my mouth like you do - I have to be extremely careful else I'll mow down a wrinkle. Otherwise, I shave about the way you do with them.
