Very Old Shave Technique

I have just read a few articles about the history of shaving. I was wondering what is the oldest shave technique any of you have used.

Using shells as tweezers, copper razors, flint, etc.

I posted a couple of pics of two old roman razors. Once looks as if it could work but I don't understand the first one pictured. Perhaps there was a blade on the bottom and the rest acted as a handle.

I may take it upon myself to try and make a copper razor like the second one pictured some day, just to see what it is like.

During my Ren Faire years about a decade ago I was known for being a bit peculiar even amongst those freaks. I rendered my own tallow on site for candles. On a joke I "oiled" up with some sheep tallow and took to my week growth with a copper blade I used for meat cutting. Decent edge, but not even close to right. It worked, but was not pretty. On the upside my girlfriend stopped complaining about me smelling like a week unbathed. She did start whinging on about me smelling like wet sheep
