VDH Badger

So I just learned of the existence of the VDH Badger Brush here on B&B. I ran a quick search to find more info. Apparently it has to be ordered directly from them, and runs roughly $23 shipped. It is apparently large, not very dense, pretty floppy and a little scritchy.

There are however, no detailed reviews. In the threads I've found, people mostly just speculated that it wouldn't work great for face lathering or for very hard soaps. So I know there are some users out there, now that you've had a little more time with the brush, let me ask point-blank: does it? Will I be able to use it with a full array of soaps and creams, even the hard ones? Does it build lather effectively and not painfully on the face? (I ask about pain because I have a Body Shop Synthetic whose tips gave me brush burn so bad that I had to apply balm repeatedly and take a few days off before my next shave)

Thanks for the help, everyone.

PS: Anyone use this? http://shaveabuck.com/cart/badger-hair-brush-in-tortoise-w-free-cream-p-237.html How is it? It seems interesting and in a similar price range but short stubby handles don't do it for me.

There is such a beast? I see two boar brushes on their website. I am intrigued if they do have a badger.

(Huge fan of my Tweezerman, I'd be curious to compare them.)

I have one but have not used it recently. It is tall and floppy. Has a wooden handle and the quality is not to bad. Not a top of the line of course but very servicable.

Works pretty well with creams but not so good with soaps of any type, just not enough backbone. A little scritchy but not uncomfortably so.

I wouldn't recommend it unless your curiousity is killing you. If you buy one, it wouldn't be wasted $$ but would be not well spent $$.

Yes it certainly exists.

It has to be ordered directly from them via phone call. In the past, they would even ship it on the honor system: they ship it to you, and you send them a check in the mail.

The story is that they had a large number of these produced for a 3rd party, and the contract either fell through, or perhaps they just don't move as quickly as suspected.

Anyway, since the company has no desire to market a badger brush at the moment, they just must be in storage. :biggrin1:

The thread in PIF suggests they're soon to be replacing their boar brush in kits with them. Or maybe I just skimmed the post to fast and got the wrong impression.
