Valobra - bestill my heart

I ordered the shave stick since:
(a) I didn't have a stick yet;
(b) I wanted something that would be handy for traveling;
(c) I wanted to try Valobra :wink2:

What wonderful stuff. Terrific lathering, and my 38C/Astra was incredibly smooth.

If only it smelled like Tabac :001_tongu

I think people have said the AOS soaps are made by Valobra. Do they lather similarly to the Valobra stick? I have the Valobra almond soft soap, and it's a bit different.

Yes, Valobra makes AOS soaps. The AOS and Valobra (shave stick) produce very similar results, but there is just something about the Valobra lather that is a little better IMHO.

All the good reasons :001_smile

That's very cool, especially at the price of a Valobra stick.

Can anybody say anything about the Valobra scent? Is it anything like AoS unscented?

Also, how does the Valobra stick lather compare to the Valobra soaps--like the Almond?

Valobra is good stuff. I've grated mine into a wooden bowl which works great. (I hate using shave sticks as shave sticks)

Maybe it's just me, I find shave sticks to be awkward to use. I much prefer building my lather on a puck of soap in a bowl.

EDIT: My suggestion for your next shave stick would be Speick. Different vibe than Valobra, but just as good.

The Valobra shaving sticks do not have that earthy/clay/organic/tallow scent that all AOS soaps have, which depending on your perspective is either a good or bad thing. To my nose the Valobra sticks have a very subtle vanilla ice cream scent - nothing obnoxious, just familiar. For all practical purposes, one could call them unscented.

I've not used the Valobra soap/cream, so I can't be of help there.

I have both the Valobra shave stick & Valobra menthol. IMO the Valobra shave stick is by far one of the better shave sticks on the market. Top grades across the chart.

However, I dont know what happened to the Valobra menthol. I really dont care if monks are stirring this :9898: in open vats for days on end. Its just not working.The scent is earthy/organic smelling although oddly kinda growing on me. But it wont matter in the use department because I find it does not offer up any glide or worse yet, no protection or cushion. I used it the other night because I thought I should revisit it. I was left with alot of red irritation (Proraso Pre/Post balm came to the rescue). I find none of this applies to the Valobra shave stick.

So in summary:

Valobra Menthol :thumbdown:

I'd say a mild vanilla-almond scent.

I'm not sure what my next stick will be - I already have Speick cream. Maybe a D. R. Harris.

Good stuff! I recently picked up a stick; may have to mill it into a container as I find I do prefer the puck- to the stick-form in general.

Are you not getting enough lather with Valobra Menthol? Just curious because I've had the opposite experience with VM, great cushion and glide.

I love the V shave sticks too!!

If you guys have sticks and feel that you lose something by face lathering, you don't have to go to all the trouble of milling down the stick. Just soak your brush as usual and hold the business end of the shave stick in the hot water for a little while. Shake out your brush and shake off the stick. Then, just pick up the soap from the end of the shave stick with your brush as you would from a puck in a bowl. Works just the same. After that you can bowl lather, hand lather, face lather, whatever.

I find the Valobra scent to be a mild clean, soapy smell like some of the French soaps. Sure it's probabyl got some light citrusy/floral/vanilla/almond undertones but I mostly get clean/soapy.

I find of all the stuff I have, I walk away from the Valobra menthol disappointed. It will lather up no problem but I find my whiskers are not getting cut close enough. When I use DR Harris, its like the lather stands those whiskers at attention ... and get wacked what seems like at the root :biggrin:

No time to waste on Valobra menthol. I will stick to the Valobra shave stick. Now thats the ticket.

I like my Valobra almond (same formulation as the Valobra menthol). It's not my favorite, but it's good. I actually want to use it more, but I'm trying to blow through my creams as much as possible. I'll mostly be a soap person from here on out, but hold on to a couple of creams I like a lot.
