What's new

Using cartridge on workdays lately.

The past week I've used my old schick hydro 5 and it really isn't bad at all... paired up with this pharmaceutical grade shaving cream I bought here in Germany (MediPharma Oliven Raischercreme) and a brand new cartridge and using my newly refined safety edge shaving skills... it honestly was a pretty smooth and extremely quick shave when I had no time. Has anyone gone back occasionally to shave with cartridge and had similar experiences?

I use a Trac II quite frequently. It gives a great quality no fuss shave.

I now have over 100 cartridges in stock for my Trac II, so yeah, I plan on using it quite often!! lol.

Good to hear, the only thing about cartridge is not that is not very satisfying... but with a new cartridge its honestly pretty smooth... I still dont plan to go back to them full time but once in a while its alright.

I'm travelling for work and couldn't bring my DE blades in my carry-on luggage, so I'm using a BIC disposable. So far, so good, but I'm worried about whether or not it will last the whole trip (I really should have packed more than one).

Of course, I'll be checking my luggage on the way back, since I stopped in an antique store yesterday and bought a WWII-era Tech in its case with some old blades!

Not sure why the deviation from DE. If it's for speed, lately I've been shaving one pass with canned cream. Then take a cold shower to eliminate the need for after shave. For more aggressive razors I apply a brushless shaving lotion before the canned cream. Good shaves, no irritation. Shaves take 5-7 minutes.

I use carts almost exclusively for travel, but I used one (Sensor) when I needed a very quick and brainless shave at home last week.
Not a bad shave at all. My problem is that Sensor prices are approaching $2 per cartridge and they don't last long enough for me to
consider going back to them full time.

This is definitely one of those deals where whatever works for you is the right thing to do. My standard three pass shave with a Gillette Super Speed and face lathering is six minutes. I've had the need to time it lately and was surprised that it wasn't more like ten minutes. I've done a real hurried two pass shave in a minute and thirty-eight seconds.

Back in the spring I used disposable razors and cartridges left over from before my DE shaving days. It seemed a shame to toss them and the local charities won't take open packages of razors, for good reason. The Atra and Atra-compatible carts from Dollar General work great and are not a bad value. My skin just doesn't tolerate three passes from razors with more blades than that, though.

I find that canned goo actually slows me down. It's faster to apply than face lathering a good soap, but the products I have tried (Barbasol foam and Edge Gel) provide cushion but no slickness, so I wind up taking slower strokes with the razor. The gel actually seems to add enough resistance to make the razor skip and tug if applied in too thick of a layer.

Carts are fine. I get GREAT shaves from a Fusion ProGlide (regular or power), as long as the cartridge is NEW. However, after three shaves, it is time for another cartridge.

My DE shaves are not quite as close, but they are much more fun--and that's the ONLY reason I use DE razors: FUN! They hardly save me any money!
