Using a Shave Stck Twist-Up Container?

I just received a couple twist-up shaving stick containers from West Coast Shaving. http://www.westcoastshaving.com/Twist-up-Shaving-Stick-Containers-2-oz_p_649.html

I am wanting to put a Palmolive and La Toja stick in these. The container has a threaded rod up the middle. Does anyone know how (or if) I can put my Palmolive stick in that container. I'm wondering if it will "screw on" the rod or if that will break up the soap. I read that you can drill a hole through the stick. I also see that some will melt & pour glycerine soaps or grate hard soaps into these containers. Wouldn't that rod poke you after the soap wears down? Can or should I remove the rod? Any thoughts/advice on this subject will be appreciated! (I searched the forum but didn't see anything specific on my question) Thanks fellas!

I got moves like Jagger
The rod is used to raise/lower the soap, so it doesn't rise out of the tube to poke you. I recommend grating hard soaps (melt'n'pour or tallow)and packing it into the container. Soft soaps like Arko can just be squished in, a piece at a time. I found melting soaps like Col.Conk and MamaBears results in some seepage inside the container and you lose some of the scent via heating.

Enjoy your stick adventures!

The rod won't poke you--it's like a screw for the bottom plate to move up and down on, so the rod will stay in the same place (inside of the tube), no matter how much you've used (same reason your deodorant/chapstick/what have you doesn't poke you). For this reason, you can't remove it if you want the twist to be functional. I was able to just mash a stick of palmolive onto a similar gluestick rod. I bet you could also use a small drill bit (okay, not sure if this would be better or worse, actually). I'd try to mash it--at worst the stick breaks, and you can just grate it.

+1 Good luck.

As a dedicated face latherer... could this process be done for ANY hard soap? In theory, could I make any soap a stick? There's no rule that says you can't just rub the bar on your face right?

Thanks Friends!!! And I won't say "Fellas" as I forgot that we are blessed to joined by lady shavers! :wink2: :blushing:

I should have studied those containers, I thought the rod went up and down. The bottom rises around the rod. Makes sense! I will dry drilling a small hole or just pushing/turning the soap stick over the threaded rod and see how it works.

I have not tried Arko yet, just Palmolive and La Toja. I suppose I better throw in an Arko stick with an order sometime and see what all the Arko "love the lather/hate the scent" is about! :thumbup1: or :thumbdown????

I am a 99% face latherer and use mostly hard soaps, Cella, and some creams. I am really loving the utility and speed of a quick stick lather and shave. Sticks are great for travel too. Gee, what other sticks must I try? Hmmmm?

Cella is easy to mash into a shave stick container. Just saying :)

Deodorant containers.... for what soap? I see Arko is soft and can be pressed/mashed in. How about other soaps. Any "gotta try this one" soaps that lend themselves for use in a push-up deodorant container?

I use it for my Arko stick and simply push the stick down on the center post. Very easy.

Thanks to all here for the suggestions. When I got home from work last night I grabbed one of the WCS containers and my Palmolive stick. Now I see that I was wrong on the rod... the base rises up and down the rod, the rod doesn't move (duh!). So, I used a narrow screwdriver and carefully "drilled" a center pilot hole and just pushed the stick down over the post, seated it in the base and it's good to go. I may save the other container for a melt & pour experiment. I can see I need to get a couple more containers and as I try new sticks I will have a line up of soap sticks in containers. (I better not display all those, SWMBO thinks I'm crazy any way)

I have the same WCS shaving container on it's way today and plan on using it with an Arko stick or a Speick stick (both on the way as well). Not sure which one to put in first. Sounds like it will be easy to do.

If you put some effort to it, you can form any soap to a stick, fitting a container of your choice. I collected some useful links in this post.

Yes, you can grate and press any hard soap into a shave stick. Whether it will work as a stick or not would need to be tested first.

Grab your puck and rub it on your face. If you get an acceptable lather then I would say you have a good chance of making a stick out of that puck.

You don't have to squish pieces of Arko. Just press it down over rod. Goes on easy.

An update... Yesterday I melted a partial puck of Colonel Conk lime glycerine soap and poured it into may second (and last) twist up container. I can see know a new AD, SSCAD! I foresee another order of containers and a shelf full of soap stick experiments. Very handy and tidy in the shave cave!

Any other ideas on shave stick experiments that are a "must try this"?
