well I'm 5 weeks into de shaving and my edwin jagger had arrived. beautiful beautiful piece of craftsmanship. I mean it is a beauty to behold. especially compared to a few I have seen and my merkur classic.
It's a hefty boy as many know and around the chin area is where it shines. Just bring it down and let the weight of the handle allow you to carry the razor down with the angle you have going.
I got careless on my first shave, too comfortable trying to find the angle and knicked my upper lip- AGGGHHHHH! (and it was a date nite for me)
anyhow it seems mild, and many report it as such, but to me it is much more aggresive than my merkur classic.
I was thinking of giving away my classic but actually I enjoy it. I now know why many people have and keep numerous razors. some just feel good. and that lil guy, merkur classic, is a beauty. I feel like I have more control - because of the little handle but my mind somehow thinks the head is much much smaller. it just seems like a smaller razor to me now but like I said, I still enjoy it so its a keeper. I inherited it from my brother.
it's day 2 with the ej, 3 shaves in, and it is very very forgiving, much more than my merkur. You still have the find the angle and just let it ride. Even on the side burns you can feel teh handle weight carry and assist you to the point where you're just "guiding", not really cutting - like the cutting feel of a cartridge. Even with the heavy solid weight you can still hear the hairs being cut but I'm still not sold that it gives me a better shave than the merkur classic. time will tell.
oh, and highly recommend d.r. harris soap. my first soap. once you learn how to load it, it face lathers so beautifully. skin feels amazing afterwards. smooth and excellent.
