Unsafe Vintage Safety Razor.

I acquired this vintage Gillette in a lot along with three others. I knew there was something hinky about it when I made the purchase, but that’s how lot purchasing goes.

As you can see on these first three pictures, at some time, someone decided to grind the comb off of the base plate leaving the the base plate narrower than the cap.

Do you think I should risk having a shave with this, or would that be Tom foolery.

I guess it’s kind of like some weird Gillette double edge Shavette with a little more shave than I’m comfortable with

Obviously, someone at some time must have used that to shave with. They just hated the comb...and maybe the whole idea of safety razors.

It's called a devette and it was more common than you might think, for guys to modify their razors by removing the guard. I have a devette without a bottom plate at all. It shaves incredibly! It's VERY efficient, but requires a near 90* angle. Try it. You might love it.

Just looking at it, having that much unsupported blade will it chatter? That may not be the correct term but in my head looking at that. It would be easier for the blade to deflect or bounce. Does that make any sense?
