UFO Handles

So I spent some time figuring out the UFO website. After you get the hang of how he has it setup, it's actually fairly easy to figure out which handle is which, and how much the are. I think the Kaiser Long is what I am interested in. So, I sent an email to see if it was possible to have one made just slightly thinner than the standard Kaiser. If not, I wanted to know what the wait time was on a standard Kaiser. The automated response told me I would get an answer in about a week or so.

Today, about a week later, I did. UFO is not accepting any orders at this time, even for a standard Kaiser handle. I wasn't in a big hurry anyhow, and I wasn't 100% sure I really wanted to spend that on a handle, but I wanted to find out what the process was.

Is this normal for UFO or are they usually swamped around the holidays or something? Just wondering really.

It is normal. Rafael the gentleman who makes the handles does it as a hobby. It isn't his full time job. If he isn't making handles at the time that you want one he will retain your email and notify you when he is able to make them. I wanted to purchase another handle and I received the same email that you did. I can tell you that the handles are flawless and they make the buying experience very easy.

Now Jeff, weren't you just saying you have too many handles..….... :p

To clarify, I have to many vintage Gillette handles. These handles just sit unused. I use my stainless steel and Cadet handles exclusively on my 3 piece razors. Besides, I just wanted to get an idea of what the process is and how long it takes. I am not good at being patient. I have a hard time plunking down my money and then waiting months for the satisfaction. Besides, I haven't even decided if I am willing to spend that much money on just a handle. I can have another Weber razor for that, or several vintage NEW's.

Hey, QUIT PICKING ON ME, OK? I'm sensitive......

I have Kaiser Short, and it's just the right thickness. It's not too thick. Their other handles, on the other hand are on the thick side.

You don't plunk down your money. They took my order and said when it is ready they will ask me to pay. Works for me. Although...I have a friend who is a noted sculptor in bronze...he is making three long handles for me...all Dragon Scales...but one patina, one polished, one chrome...so I might be handle poor myself. I might have to buy more razors...

If you ask, you can get the other handle designs on the thinner (13mm) bar normally used for the Kaiser. I had Rafael make me a thin/short Tornado to go along with my Kaiser short, which has a FaTip thread.

For me, being based in the UK, the UFO handles cost only slightly more than Ikon stainless steel handles. As others have said, the fit & finish of the UFO handles is exemplary. Juan & Rafael are true gentlemen to deal with & keep you informed during every step of the process.

Its the same size as a Ikon handle. A little (5mm) longer than the Weber Bulldog. Same diameter. Its my favorite handle.

My selling picture:

Grrrr. Neffarious stop taunting me with that pic! I'm waiting for the same handle to go with my iSlant. I hope it will be here by Xmas.

Jeff, maybe if you dig up that box of handles that I know you buried in your yard and offer a trade he will speed up the process!?

Seriously though, I'm glad you posted this because now that I am becoming interested in NEWs I'm thinking about handles too (ugh... yes, I have a problem), and I really love the way the UFOs look. But I agree that they seem a bit thick. Plus they are indeed pricey. I'm tempted to just think about IKONs or even Webers to save more money. Plus I've heard the webers are awesome anyway! But then again, gosh, the UFOs look SOOOOO nice. Good to know that at least I have some time to think about it, as no orders are possible at the moment.

I really like the design of the UFO torpedo..... is that pattern not made anymore, anyone know BTW? I couldn't find it on the website.
