TWSBI 540 nib gushing ink

Hello everyone, my girlfriend bought me a TWSBI 540 for Christmas right before Goulet's quit carrying it. I haven't really had much time to use it since i've been having to use a generic office pen to take class notes with because of the speed the teacher is talking I have to write extremely fast causing me to bare down on the pen. Anyway, A while back ago I filled up my TWSBI and shortly after the ink seemed to gush out of the nib causing ink to spread all over my paper. I emptied it and figured that it was probably that the ink I was using was really runny (Liberty's Elysium). Filled it up again later and the same thing (J herbin 1670 red). I dismissed this too and thought maybe It was set upside down, maybe its the ink, etc... I set it aside for a while and switched to using that office pen. Came back to the 540 yesterday and filled it with Lexington Gray. Unfortunately, today same thing, ink gushing out of the nib all over the paper.

Hope you stuck through that long background information. My question is do you think that it might be something wrong with the nib? Has anyone else had this problem?

Maybe the nib is loose? It's a screw-in unit. Grab the back of the nib between your thumb and index finger (it the pen is inked, prepare to get some ink on your hand) and give it a little clockwise tightening and see if that corrects the problem.

If that doesn't fix it, then look the pen over closely with a loupe or magnifying glass and see if there are any cracks. If you find any, let TWSBI know and they should take care of replacing any broken bits.

Any luck figuring this out yet?

Where is that Team TWSBI when youse need them?

Maybe the NIB isn't lined up correctly? I've had no problem with the 2 I own. Good luck let us know what's up with it

I hear they have great customer service I'm sure if you contact them they will fix you right up

Team twsbi usually raves about that

Youse guys are killing me. I figured Brian would have been along by now to offer suggestions about what to do with this pen.

I'd say send it back, and ask for a refund.

Sorry for my recent absence from the thread. I inspected the pen thoroughly and don't see any cracks in the pen. Then nib unit was already tight, I was frightened that if I were to tighten any more then plastic would have cracked under the nib. I cleaned it out yet again and I'm going to give one more try with some Heart of Darkness. We shall see. If this doesn't work then I'm going to contact TWSBI. Thanks for your help. Sounds like TWSBI is pretty good at making their customers happy.

Jrward, contact them, they will replace it for you at their expense, and make it very trouble free for you. We have a bit of a running joke about them, but they do take care of their customers. If there is nothing you can do with the pen dont just let it sit in a drawer, let the company get you a pen that will make you happy to own. Glad to see you try and figure it out, but there comes a time when you shouldnt let it frustrate you and let the company take care of the products they stand behind mate. Maybe one of our twsbi team members who have done this before can come along and share what they did to get the parts or pen they needed replaced, well replaced

ahahaha...pure awesomeness. A man has to stand for something, or he'll fall for anything! I'll admit to owning a 540, and haven't had a single issue with it, but I have better writing pens. Sadly it doesn't get much use. Brian, have you at least tried a TWSBI? I'll donate mine to you if you'd like to try one, lol

Careful with that offer. It may have an unfortunate accident while in Brian's care.
